On Deck
The Grand Banks GB62 Fly builds on the proven GB60 platform with a number of well-judged exterior refinements. Starting at the stern, the yacht features a solid swim platform rather than a hydraulic one, fitted with a receptacle for a removable swim ladder. There’s also a dedicated live bait well and dual shore power connections, one on each side.
The cockpit has been extended by a foot, creating a noticeably larger space with a convertible dining table that can seat six to eight guests depending on the setup. This area is clearly designed with social use in mind, while also offering practical details like anti-skid decking and wide bulwarks that double as steps when docked side-on. The teak underfoot is beautifully finished and remains cool underfoot.
Integrated into the aft cockpit layout is a bar unit with a grill and griddle, with storage spaces cleverly tucked around, including deep lockers, a shower, and access hatches for the watermaker and seacocks. One hatch holds what appears to be a hydraulic pack, likely for the crane on the flybridge. A secondary joystick helm is mounted aft, enabling docking from the cockpit without needing to use the main controls.
The side decks are safe and generous, with teak steps leading to a functional foredeck more geared toward anchoring and operation than lounging. The anchor setup includes a stainless steel Ultra anchor, windlass with foot switches, and split lockers for chain and fenders, finished with teak detailing. Additional design details include the two-tone paintwork along the superstructure, with bronze-like accents that give the yacht its subtle, signature style.
Up top, the flybridge is laid out for both practical and leisure use. It accommodates a 4m (13ft) tender launched by a Steelhead Marine crane (454kg capacity), with stowage space aft for loungers or extra seating once the chocks are removed. A stainless steel railing wraps the deck, with removable lifelines at key points to avoid damage during tender handling. There are also solar panels mounted forward of the radar mast.
Forward on the flybridge is a high-quality dining and lounging setup under a hardtop, with a matte-finished ceiling to reduce glare. The space includes an entertainment bar with a sink, fridge, and storage, with options for a barbecue or ice maker. A large L-shaped dining area surrounds a fixed-height table. Anti-skid flooring is used without compromising the look or feel, and the overall layout makes the most of the space for both passage and relaxing at anchor.
Interior Accommodation
The interior of the GB62 Fly feels open and refined, with clever solutions that make the most of every area. The galley sits aft, connecting directly to the cockpit via a drop-down window that turns it into a social hub when open. The U-shaped layout includes drawer fridges, an induction cooktop, microwave oven, dishwasher and smart upper lockers that descend at the touch of a button. Storage is extensive, including large undercounter compartments and adjustable fridge-freezer drawers.
Moving forward, the saloon is arranged around a large L-shaped sofa with a convertible table and a pop-up TV opposite. The furniture is loose, so layouts can be adapted. There’s potential for a high-low table to turn this area into an extra berth for guests or movie nights. Subtle design details like the slightly curved ceiling give the space a nostalgic trawler feel, while the window and door setup enables strong cross-ventilation when opened. A trio of drop-down windows plus a side door means the saloon can stay cool without constant air conditioning.
Storage continues to be a strong suit here, with glove compartments, electrical outlets, and smart hidden drawers throughout. The joinery is finished in a warm wood tone (possibly Australian gum tree), with a rich, honeyed color that softens the crisp lines of the space.
The lower helm features a double bench that flips into a leaning post, with excellent visibility and direct side-deck access. The controls include twin Garmin multifunction displays, integrated Volvo Penta screen, autopilot, joystick control (despite the boat using straight shafts), bow and stern thrusters, Humphree trim tab system, and full electrical switching. The layout is clearly set up for owner-operators, with practical touches like ventilation outlets and easy access to the side decks.
Owner's Cabin
Located to port amidships, the owner’s cabin takes a slightly offset layout rather than a full-beam approach, which benefits technical efficiency and weight distribution. Even so, it remains bright and spacious thanks to a large glazed panel overhead and extensive storage. The walkaround double bed sits under a skylight, with generous drawers beneath and additional storage to port and starboard. Hanging lockers, bedside drawers, and shelving are all integrated, with every available area used thoughtfully.
The ensuite bathroom includes a well-sized separate shower with teak flooring, angled slightly for drainage. The finish here matches the rest of the yacht, with a soft, buttery feel to the teak and practical details like storage beneath the sink, a medicine cabinet, and a large porthole bringing in natural light.
Guest Accommodation
The forward VIP cabin features a queen-sized bed with drawers beneath, hull-side storage, a dressing table setup, and a hanging locker. Natural light is brought in through an overhead hatch. While it doesn’t have a private ensuite, the day head just aft functions as a dedicated bathroom when guests are staying aboard. This space is elegantly finished with a single-level floor, sloped to a central drain, and includes a walk-in shower, medicine cabinet, and natural light through another hatch.
To starboard is a convertible twin cabin that doubles as a laundry space. It’s fitted with a washer and dryer, a single berth with a filler to make a full-size bed, and clever storage solutions including blackout panels over the window and cubbies for personal items. There’s also a house battery management panel and hanging locker space.
Performance
Accessed through the cockpit, the engine room and lazarette are beautifully finished and neat. The lazarette includes teak flooring, built-in shelving, and storage for items like deck chairs or Seabobs. Dual shore power cable reels are mounted aft, and the area offers full headroom at entry, stepping down into a neat machinery space.
The engine room houses twin Volvo Penta D13 straight-shaft engines, supported by dual generators, a watermaker, hydraulic systems, and integrated fire suppression. The layout allows full walkaround access to filters, seacocks, and strainers. Battery boxes and key systems like fuel sight glasses, CCTV monitoring, and cooling circuits are all clearly accessible.
Despite offering an IPS drive as an option, this hull relies on a traditional shaft drive combined with joystick control thanks to the Twin Disc system, which integrates main engines, thrusters, and rudder position to allow joystick-style maneuvering.
Performance-wise, the GB62 can reach up to 30 knots depending on engine configuration. With the standard 900hp engines, it’s capable of cruising over 800 nautical miles at 20 knots. Fuel efficiency was a strong focus in the design, right down to the use of Veem propellers and efficient hull dynamics.
In Summary
The Grand Banks GB62 Fly is an evolution from the already well-regarded GB60, delivering a layout and performance package that suits owner-operators and cruising couples alike. It balances comfort with practicality, pairing high-end finishes with thoughtful design details throughout. From the sociable cockpit and versatile flybridge to the relaxed, open-plan saloon and highly functional engine room, this is a yacht that feels refined but not precious. Its efficient cruising range, excellent storage, and semi-custom flexibility make it a smart choice for serious cruisers who want comfort, craftsmanship, and capability in equal measure.
