Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 7.87m beam and a 6.81m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 166 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
The 41.6m (137ft) Jongert sailing yacht Abide was built in 2002 with exterior styling by Tony Castro Yacht Design and naval architecture developed in-house by the Dutch shipyard. Her profile reflects the classic long-range ketch proportions Jongert became known for, with a steel hull, aluminium superstructure and a purposeful ocean-going stance.
Viewed under sail, Abide carries a clean and balanced silhouette with tall aluminium spars, a traditional ketch rig arrangement and long overhangs that give the yacht a distinctly timeless character. The dark blue hull contrasts against the lighter superstructure and teak deck surfaces, while the relatively low deckhouse helps preserve the yacht’s elegant sailing lines.
The raised deck saloon structure incorporates wraparound glazing that introduces more natural light into the interior without dominating the exterior profile. Wide side decks and uncluttered walkaround areas reinforce the yacht’s practical offshore brief and support safe movement while underway.
Her cockpit forms the primary outdoor social space and centres around a large dining table flanked by deep integrated seating. The area sits well protected within the superstructure lines while still maintaining open views aft across the deck and water.
A retractable stern platform system provides direct access to the sea and acts as both a boarding area and swim platform. The arrangement integrates neatly into the transom without disrupting the yacht’s classic stern lines.
Abide underwent a substantial refit between 2023 and 2024 at Front Street Shipyard in preparation for circumnavigation cruising. The work included new decks, upgraded systems and new standing rod rigging installed in 2023.
Interior Design
Abide’s interior was originally designed by Peter Sijm and combines traditional Jongert craftsmanship with updated detailing introduced during her recent refit. Rich wood joinery remains one of the defining features throughout the yacht, with extensive custom cabinetry, panel work and integrated storage.
Satin-finished timber surfaces, soft lighting and white overhead panels create a more traditional sailing yacht environment with a strong residential feel.
The raised upper salon benefits from panoramic glazing and maintains visual connection with the helm area, creating a brighter social space than many sailing yachts of similar age. The arrangement also improves visibility while underway and allows natural light to spread deeper into the living spaces.
The main salon combines lounge seating and formal dining within a single open-plan arrangement. Built-in cabinetry, detailed wood trim and recessed lighting give the space a structured and highly crafted appearance.
Accommodation
Abide accommodates up to nine guests across four staterooms.
The full-beam owner’s suite includes a queen-size bed, private lounge area and desk space. Extensive built-in cabinetry and bookshelves reinforce the suite’s long-range cruising focus and residential atmosphere.
Guest accommodation also includes a VIP stateroom, a flexible cabin fitted with both a double and single bed, and a twin cabin with Pullman berth capability, allowing several guest configuration options.
She is also capable of carrying up to 4 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Abide has a complete 2025 Doyle sail inventory alongside hydraulic furling systems and automated winches, supporting easier sail handling for long-distance cruising. Her versatile keel and centreboard configuration allows draft adjustment depending on cruising grounds and sailing conditions.
A Caterpillar 3406E 608hp engine gives Abide a cruising speed of 10 knots and top speed of 12 knots under power.
