Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.91m beam and a 2.7m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
She was delivered to her owners in January 1992.
Exterior Design
Renegade has changed a great deal since she left Brisbane in 1992 as the 43m Robusto. The original Lloyd’s Ships profile was classic early-1990s superyacht: long foredeck, high bow, substantial superstructure and a fairly compact stern. A major extension in 2016 took her to 49.85m (163.5ft), and the extra length went where it could make the biggest difference, right at the aft end of the yacht.
Comparing the original and current GAs shows how much that work altered life on deck. Robusto finished with a relatively tight main-deck terrace and small swim platform, while Renegade now has a broad aft deck with fold-down side balconies, twin staircases and a much larger platform at the water. The internal layout forward was largely left alone, so the rebuild added modern outdoor space without throwing away the useful parts of the original arrangement.
The profile still has plenty of its 1990s character, with a deep hull, long sheer line and a superstructure stacked quite formally above it. The anthracite hull helps reduce some of that visual height, and the white upperworks step back as they rise towards the bridge and flybridge. In the current photographs, the stern extension also gives the yacht better proportion, with more length behind the superstructure and a less abrupt finish aft.
Outdoor living is spread over several levels. The main deck aft is large enough for dining and lounging, the upper deck adds another terrace behind the skylounge, and the flybridge carries open seating and gym equipment. The foredeck remains largely working space, with the guest areas concentrated aft and high in the yacht.
The 2016 rebuild is the part that has done most to keep Renegade relevant. A yacht designed more than three decades ago now has the water access, broad aft terrace and outdoor entertaining space expected of a much newer 50m design, while the original aluminium platform and internal architecture remain underneath.
Interior Design
Ricky Smith's interior has a more traditional feel than many newer yachts of this size, with warm timber, substantial furniture and rooms laid out around clearly defined functions. It suits the age of the yacht and has survived subsequent refits without being stripped of all its original character.
The main deck carries a full-beam saloon and formal dining room, with the two spaces arranged in sequence aft of the owner's accommodation. Large windows bring plenty of light into what is otherwise quite a substantial interior, and the current layout still has the formality you would expect from a large custom yacht of the early 1990s.
One deck up, the skylounge has a more relaxed second saloon with direct access to the upper aft terrace. That separation works well on a yacht carrying ten guests because there is somewhere to disappear after dinner or during a long passage without simply moving from one end of the main saloon to the other.
Accommodation
Renegade accommodates up to ten guests in five cabins, with the main-deck owner's suite supported by three double cabins and one single cabin on the lower deck. The single also has a Pullman berth, giving the layout some useful flexibility for children, staff or a nanny, and the charter setup is considered most comfortable with up to eight adults.
The owner's suite occupies a large section of the forward main deck and includes a private study, walk-in wardrobes and an en suite bathroom. Three doubles and the single cabin sit together on the lower deck, while crew accommodation is arranged for 8.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (396 TB 9416V) 3,000hp engines, motor yacht Renegade is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 60,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,500 nautical miles making her well capable of long range and transatlantic voyages. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
Amenities
A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
