Samsara is a 30.6m expedition yacht for sale delivered by Maxi in 2006. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Overing Yacht Designs, while Kirschstein Designs Ltd is responsible for her interior design.

Key Features

  • True expedition design
  • Flexible flybridge deck
  • Full-beam owner's suite
  • 4,450nm cruising range

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 7.6m beam and a 2.36m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 224 GT (Gross Tonnes).

This was the first yacht built on the Overing 100 design. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Designed by Setzer Yacht Architects and built by Overing Yachts as part of the Maxi 100 series, Samsara takes her cues from commercial ships rather than fashion-led explorer yachts. A high bow, raised wheelhouse and deep bulwarks give her a reassuring presence at sea, while wide side decks and substantial handrails make it easy to move safely around the yacht in poor weather or during long passages.

A near-vertical bow extends the waterline and increases usable volume below deck, while the forward-positioned superstructure leaves a generous aft cockpit without upsetting the yacht's balance. Forward-raked bridge windows provide excellent sightlines from the helm, and the Portuguese bridge wraps around the wheelhouse to protect the side decks as crew move between bow and stern. Viewed from almost any angle, the profile makes no attempt to disguise its purpose. This is a yacht designed to travel.

Wide walkways connect every exterior space without awkward pinch points, so guests and crew can circulate freely whether underway or at anchor. The sheltered cockpit sits close to the water for relaxed outdoor dining, while the foredeck offers another quiet seating area protected by the height of the bow.

Loose furniture allows the flybridge to change with each trip. A barbecue and covered dining area create an inviting place to spend the day once the tender has been launched, while removable deck chocks and a heavy-duty crane allow the same deck to carry substantial equipment during longer expeditions. That flexibility suits the yacht's character far better than fixing the space to one permanent arrangement.

Interior Design

Rich timber joinery, painted overhead panels and generous windows give Samsara a warm, timeless interior that feels built for living rather than making a statement. Instead of relying on fashionable finishes, the focus stays on craftsmanship, practical layouts and materials that remain just as appealing after years of use.

Large windows flood the main saloon with natural light as the lounge flows naturally into the dining area without unnecessary partitions. A concealed television rises when required, a dedicated bar supports everyday entertaining, and the traditional timber finish brings warmth without making the room feel enclosed.

Twin helm seats sit beneath broad forward windows in a wheelhouse arranged much like that of a small ship. Navigation displays, CCTV monitors and a proper chart desk surround the captain, while doors on both sides lead directly onto the Portuguese bridge for quick access during docking or close-quarters manoeuvres.

Direct access between the galley and crew mess allows service to run efficiently without crossing guest spaces, while laundry facilities, freezer storage, watermakers and technical equipment occupy dedicated machinery spaces below.

Accommodation

Eight guests stay aboard in four ensuite cabins comprising a full-beam owner's suite, two doubles and one twin. Rather than filling every available space with additional berths, the layout gives each cabin enough room for extended cruising.

Positioning the owner's suite across the full beam aft creates space for a walk-in wardrobe, generous ensuite, dedicated desk and extensive storage, while large hull windows introduce far more daylight than many explorer yachts of a similar age. The result feels much closer to a private apartment than a conventional yacht cabin.

Placing the VIP cabin forward behind a substantial watertight door preserves one of the yacht's commercial influences, while the remaining double and twin cabins sit comfortably between the VIP and owner's suite. Every guest cabin has its own ensuite and generous hull windows, so no one feels tucked away below deck during longer stays.

Five crew members live in dedicated accommodation forward with their own cabins, mess and direct access to the galley, allowing service to remain largely separate from guest life. An additional engineer's cabin beside the machinery spaces supports extended cruising, as technical staff can remain close to the systems they oversee throughout longer passages.

Performance & Capabilities

Twin 600hp Caterpillar diesel engines propel Samsara to a cruising speed of 11 knots and a top speed of 12 knots, while fuel capacity of 36,000 litres provides a range of approximately 4,450 nautical miles at an economical 10 knots.

Zero-speed stabilisers keep movement under control both underway and at anchor, making long passages and remote anchorages more comfortable in a wide range of conditions. Wide walkways around both Caterpillar engines leave excellent access for servicing, while generators, electrical systems and auxiliary machinery remain easy to inspect without removing surrounding equipment.

A dedicated workshop, Atlas shore-power converter, watermakers, substantial freezer storage and onboard laundry all support long periods away from port.

Amenities

Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Samsara also features an inviting spread of sunpads.
