Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement wood hull and superstructure she features a 5.58m beam and a 2.62m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 118 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Blue Peter is a 29.3m (96ft) classic fantail motor yacht drawn by Ted Geary and built in 1928 by the Lake Union Dry Dock Company in Seattle. Her profile belongs to another era entirely, with a tall plumb bow, long flush decks, varnished timber trim and a beautifully rounded fantail stern that remains one of the defining features of Pacific Northwest classic yacht design.

Twin masts rise above a compact raised pilothouse and low superstructure, giving the yacht a purposeful working-ship character rather than the layered styling of later motor yachts. Wide promenade decks run almost the full length of the yacht, protected by varnished rails and timber-framed windows that reinforce the period detailing throughout.

The upper boat deck carries a pair of traditional davits alongside the yacht’s tenders, including a Rendova RIB and a Whitehall sailing dinghy. From the images, the deck arrangement stays remarkably uncluttered despite the tender setup, with deck chairs and open lounging areas spread around the perimeter.

The restoration programme preserved Blue Peter’s original proportions while rebuilding huge sections of the yacht using traditional methods and materials. New 1-1/8in teak carvel-planked decks were installed alongside rebuilt yellow cedar bulwarks and purpleheart covering boards. The iconic fantail stern also underwent major structural restoration to preserve the yacht’s original shape and strength.

Her hull construction remains deeply traditional, using yellow cedar over double sawn Douglas fir frames with an ironbark keel shoe and Douglas fir keel structure. The result is a yacht that still feels authentically 1920s in appearance and atmosphere despite extensive mechanical and systems upgrades beneath the surface.

Interior Design

Inside, Blue Peter feels much closer to a classic ship than a modern superyacht. Original teak and mahogany joinery defines almost every space, restored carefully during the multi-million-dollar rebuild while retaining the yacht’s period atmosphere.

The main saloon centres around one of the yacht’s most unusual features, an original wood-burning fireplace set beneath panoramic windows. Plush seating surrounds the space, while period-style lighting and restored timber detailing maintain the feeling of a private 1920s yacht club at sea.

A formal dining room on the lower deck seats eight guests beside the galley, creating a more intimate arrangement than the open-plan saloons found aboard newer yachts. The galley itself balances heritage styling with modern equipment, including a Wolf professional range, Miele dishwasher, integrated refrigeration and custom soapstone worktops.

The raised pilothouse remains one of the standout interior spaces. Large timber-framed windows surround the helm while a built-in guest bench allows passengers to sit alongside the captain underway, something increasingly rare on modern yachts where wheelhouses are often separated from guest areas.

Throughout the restoration, modern systems were integrated carefully into the yacht without disturbing her character. Garmin navigation equipment, Starlink internet, Sonos audio, LED lighting and updated climate systems sit discreetly behind restored joinery and traditional finishes.

Accommodation

Blue Peter accommodates up to eight guests across five staterooms, with additional crew accommodation forward.

The main deck master suite spans the beam forward and includes twin berths, an en suite bathroom and extensive storage. On the lower deck, a VIP cabin uses a queen berth and shares access to a bathroom with bathtub facilities.

Additional guest accommodation includes a twin cabin with en suite facilities and a separate single guest cabin positioned amidships. Crew quarters sit forward of the galley with two bunks and a dedicated head.

Interior finishes continue the yacht’s classic atmosphere with teak and mahogany joinery, teak-and-holly flooring, custom upholstery and period-inspired fixtures throughout.

Performance & Capabilities

Motor yacht Blue Peter is capable of reaching a top speed of 13 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots.
