The 46.63m motor yacht Focus was delivered to her owners in 2002 by North American Yachts. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Luiz de Basto Designs, while Hydro Tec S.r.l. is responsible for her naval architecture.

Key Features

  • African makore mahogany, Tuscan marble interiors
  • Main aft deck seats 10 for dining
  • Jacuzzi on aft exterior sun deck
  • Partially enclosed sundeck

Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.99m beam and a 2.28m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 2000. Launched in April 2002 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in December 2002.

Exterior Design

Focus features a semi-displacement hull built in aluminium, with a flared, raked bow to enhance stability and handling. The hull is finished in a deep navy blue, complemented by a white-painted aluminium superstructure and a white boot top - a sharp, clean palette that gives the yacht a smart and timeless appearance. Teak decking adds a classic, tactile finish throughout.

Exterior design is by Luiz de Basto, who crafted both the yacht's lines and layout with an eye toward spaciousness and comfort. The sundeck is partially enclosed, with the forward section surrounded by windows, providing 270-degree views and a sheltered environment ideal for use in cooler climates. Aft, there's a large Jacuzzi with a 1,893-litre (500-gallon) capacity and ample space for sunbathing or lounging.

The aft main deck is equipped for outdoor dining, featuring a large wooden table with seating for up to 10 guests. On the owner's deck aft, there's a private, shaded terrace - crescent-shaped and more spacious than it appears from the interior. It's set slightly back for additional privacy and is a favourite spot for breakfast or quiet reflection.

Design details throughout the exterior reflect subtle considerations for privacy and movement. The side decks are closed off aft, preventing unwanted access to the private owner’s terrace and creating a sense of seclusion. Access to the engine room is well thought out, with separate crew entry from the side deck, while escape routes are incorporated for safety.

Focus boasts a Jacuzzi, African makore mahogany interiors, and accommodations for 10 guests, ensuring an immersive ocean experience.

Interior Design

Interior design also comes from Luiz de Basto, with soft furnishings by Ralph Lauren. The overall aesthetic channels a refined, almost club-like warmth. African makore mahogany and Tuscan marble are used throughout, giving the spaces a unified feel and deep, rich character. Dark wood cabinetry is featured extensively, particularly in the main saloon and formal dining area. Despite the depth of tone, the atmosphere remains inviting and relaxed - offering a welcome contrast to the brightness of the exterior decks.

The main saloon is configured for sociability, with four armchairs grouped around a glass-topped coffee table and a dedicated bar area complete with traditional stools and a built-in sink. The materials and detailing - including studded blue velvet finishes - reinforce a comfortable but polished American styling.

A standout feature is the enclosed observation lounge on the sundeck. Originally open, it was enclosed for use in colder climates like New England. It offers panoramic views and climate-controlled comfort - a favourite spot for dining or relaxing, particularly with its close proximity to the dayhead and elevator. The space is ideal for all-day use, blending the feel of being outdoors with the convenience of indoor shelter.

Forward on the bridge deck is the wheelhouse, which includes Portuguese-style access around the front. The layout here is slightly unconventional, trading forward visibility for internal storage, a choice that adds practical capacity beneath the helm area. The captain’s preference for a more private workspace is respected here too.

The galley is notably spacious and light-filled, fitted out more like a home kitchen than a utilitarian crew zone. This friendliness extends into the layout itself - the yacht was modified to be wheelchair accessible, which accounts for the unusually wide passageways and open-plan feel. A second prep area on the lower deck supports high-level catering.

The formal dining salon, which can double as a business meeting space, is adaptable and well-proportioned.

Accommodation

Focus accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins. The guest accommodation is located on the lower deck and comprises two twin cabins that can be converted into doubles, plus two VIP cabins - one with a tub and one with a shower. The cabins are finished to a high standard, with continued use of dark woodwork and subtle detailing such as hand-crafted Italian staircases and fluting in the joinery.

The owner’s suite occupies the aft section of the bridge deck, with a layout that breaks from the usual forward-facing configuration. Instead, the suite faces aft and opens onto a completely private deck space. The suite includes a generous sleeping area filled with natural light from multiple directions, an adjacent office, and a dedicated library - complete with retractable TV and a mock fireplace. It's a peaceful, multifunctional space suited equally for work, reading, or relaxation.

This owner’s area is entirely self-contained, with the terrace and side decks configured to prevent intrusion. Sliding partitions allow the entire deck to be enclosed for complete privacy.

There are generous crew facilities forward on the main deck for up to 10 crew - a layout twist that replaces the expected master cabin with crew quarters. The crew area includes a large crew mess, practical for servicing guest cabins directly via internal passageways. There's also a crew pantry and secondary galley area for additional prep work.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3512B) 12-cylinder 2,250hp engines running at 1925rpm, motor yacht Focus is capable of reaching a top speed of 18 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots. With her 66,620 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,000 nautical miles at 13 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.

Focus combines a semi-displacement aluminium hull for efficient performance and a classic navy blue and white exterior.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and an elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible. Focus also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
