The multi-award winning 115m motor yacht Pelorus was delivered to her owners in 2003 by German shipyard Lurssen. She features exterior design by Tim Heywood Design and interior styling by Terence Disdale.

Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 17.2m beam and a 4.66m draft. The yacht is built over 6 decks with an internal volume of 5,403 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in mid 2000 with the keel laid under the project name 'Coral Island II'. Launched in May 2001 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2003.
Exterior Design
At 115m (377.3ft), her long, slightly reversed sheer line allows four full-width decks within the hull, with the bow and stern sitting lower than the midsection. That detail gives the profile a planted, almost purposeful stance, closer to a fast naval vessel than a typical leisure yacht.
Tim Heywood’s exterior lines lean on strong geometry. The so-called armour belt line runs along the hull and dips toward the water, a nod to naval design that adds visual weight through the mid-body. The bow is near vertical from head-on, with clean anchor pockets and narrow openings cut into the hull. From the side, the hull reads as long and uninterrupted, broken by rows of square and rectangular windows that keep the look disciplined rather than decorative.
Deck space is extensive and built for use. Multiple shell doors fold out to form sea terraces, including a large opening in the VIP area where the hull side drops to create a proper balcony at the water’s edge. The stern carries layered decks that step down toward the water, while the upper levels stretch wide with long overhangs and clean glazing bands.
Function sits behind much of the exterior detail. Hydraulic systems drive cranes, davits, gangways, terraces and shell doors, along with stabilising fins and a telescopic foremast. The yacht also carries two helipads, integrated without breaking the overall lines. The finish is classic Lürssen: white hull and superstructure, teak decks, and dark glazing that ties the profile together.
Interior Design
Terence Disdale’s interior approach moves away from formal grandeur. The spaces take cues from a relaxed coastal house, with natural materials, soft tones and layered textures used throughout.
The main saloon sits as a flexible living space, with sea terraces on both sides that open the room directly to the water. A hand-tufted carpet with a carved wave pattern anchors the space, while loose seating allows the layout to shift between open lounge and social setting.
Material contrast carries through the yacht. Upper deck cabins use upholstered wall panels formed from woven fabric squares, paired with leather-panelled ceilings. The dining room mixes rattan, granite and vellum-edged tables, with louvred teak shutters and angled mirrors set into the inboard bulkhead so views carry across the room.
The owner’s areas sit on a private deck, accessed through hydraulic cantilevered doors. Inside, the suite keeps the same soft palette but adds sculptural detail. The bathroom uses white stone underfoot, with an egg-shaped bath and raised glass basins set on stainless supports.
Entertainment and wellness spaces spread across multiple decks. There is a cinema with a large-format screen, a full gym with a fold-out sea terrace, and a spa with steam room and plunge pool. A swimming pool and jacuzzi sit on the sun deck, while a nightclub space adds a more social side to the layout.
Accommodation
Pelorus is arranged for up to 24 guests in 12 cabins, with dispensation allowing up to 36 when required. Crew numbers reach 46, supported by additional staff cabins to maintain service across the yacht’s size.
The owner’s suite occupies its own deck and uses a semicircular layout to open wide views forward. The space includes a private study, large bedroom and dedicated service areas, with direct access control through the deck.
Two superior suites sit on the upper deck, each with large square windows set into the hull sides. Guest cabins on the lower deck sit higher than typical, so they retain strong natural light. One cabin includes a fold-out sea terrace, which opens directly onto the water.
The VIP suite stands out for its scale and its opening hull section, where the side folds down to form a full balcony. Across all guest areas, layouts vary between double and twin cabins, with flexible use depending on the group onboard.
Performance & Capabilities
Pelorus is powered by two 3,900kW Wärtsilä diesel engines which drive her at a top speed of up to 20 knots. These engines are typically fitted to small commercial or military vessels where reliability is of the utmost importance and high utilization is the norm. The engines run at a medium speed of 1,000rpm and have special features to ensure long life, such as a lubricating oil purifying centrifuge that keeps the 2,500 liters of oil in each engine perfectly clean without the need for disposable filters. This makes it possible for major maintenance tasks, like replacing piston rings, to be carried out at sea.
Pelorus has a cruising speed of 16 knots, giving her a range of 6,000 nautical miles without refueling. Engine efficiency is further enhanced by the use of variable pitch Lips propellers, which can be controlled from the bridge. This system allows the engineers to fine-tune the power and propeller revolutions for the speed required, and also enables the yacht to run on one engine without incurring huge drag from the dead propeller.
For maneuverability, Pelorus is equipped with two 294kW electrically driven bow thrusters. These also use variable pitch propellers and are duplicated for reliability. The yacht's rudders are larger than normal and can turn through a greater angle, which, combined with the ability to operate individually, helps push the stern sideways. A computerized Lips-stick system integrates all these elements, allowing the vessel to maneuver in any direction.
In terms of stability, Pelorus features longer and more efficient stabilizers than usual, which fold into recesses in the hull side when the yacht enters harbor. To improve the efficiency of the hull, the forward waterline is extended by a huge bulb almost as long as the bow overhang.
Pelorus is also equipped with a range of technical systems that can be operated and monitored by computer. These include a high-end air-conditioning system with 10 air-handling units to distribute chilled air to all areas, and extensive hydraulic systems for powering various features like cranes, davits, gangways, terraces, and stabilizing fins.
Pelorus also boasts an impressive safety feature in the form of a foam generator in the engine room to cope with the possibility of a fuel fire in the bilges. The engine room and generator rooms are air-conditioned to keep the temperature under control, and all cooling and bilge water is led to a common manifold and discharged below the waterline, so that water will never be seen splashing down the hull side.

Waterfront living can be enjoyed to the fullest, thanks to a large beach club and connecting swim platform with plenty of space for sitting back and admiring the sea views.
