Delivered in 2019, Excellence is a multi-award winning 79.95m motor yacht built by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Winch Design, while Abeking & Rasmussen is responsible for her naval architecture.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 14.45m beam and a 3.45m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 2,115 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in May 2019 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in September 2019.
Exterior Design
Excellence is difficult to mistake for any other yacht. Built by Abeking & Rasmussen for American businessman Herb Chambers, the 79.95m (262.3ft) yacht was designed by Winch Design to break away from the conventions of large yacht design. The result is a profile that looks closer to a concept car than a traditional displacement yacht, with a reverse bow, vast mirrored glass surfaces and circular terraces that soften the sharp geometry elsewhere.
The defining feature is the yacht's reverse "eagle bow". Inspired by the beak of an American eagle, its razor-sharp lines sweep back almost 10m (32.8ft) before joining the main deck. Chambers reportedly requested the change after seeing M/Y A in the Caribbean, prompting a substantial redesign during the project's development. What began as a styling request quickly became an engineering challenge. Extensive tank testing was required to ensure the unconventional shape delivered the seakeeping expected of an 80m yacht.
The stem itself is extraordinary. Near the waterline, it is machined from a solid piece of stainless steel before flaring outward into the hull sides. Beneath the surface, a bulbous bow provides additional buoyancy forward and helps manage wave impacts. The final design proved capable in sea states with wave heights of up to 8.5m (27.9ft), dispelling concerns that the dramatic profile might compromise performance.
The glazing is equally ambitious. Five-metre-high sheets of mirrored glass form much of the yacht's exterior skin, creating an uninterrupted reflective surface that stretches through the heart of the superstructure. These panels required specialist engineering to maintain structural rigidity while preserving a flawless mirrored finish. From a distance, the glazing reflects the sea and sky so completely that large sections of the yacht seem to dissolve into their surroundings.
The aerial view reveals how carefully the yacht's proportions have been managed. Despite carrying 2,115GT across five guest decks, Excellence avoids the layered appearance common to many large yachts. Dark glazing forms a continuous band through the profile, visually lowering the superstructure, while sweeping circular terraces introduce softer forms that balance the aggression of the bow.
Nothing interrupts the lines. Life rafts disappear into flush bulwark compartments, ventilation louvres hide behind mirrored stainless-steel grilles, and even the exterior doors required bespoke opening systems to accommodate the yacht's complex curves and bevelled surfaces. Different doors use different mechanisms depending on their location within the structure.
Outdoor living areas are spread across multiple levels. The main aft deck centres around a large swimming pool, while the bridge deck carries a 14-seat dining table and a sunken bar designed specifically to preserve views across the stern. The owner's private deck includes its own pool and terrace, while a further pool and bar sit on the sundeck above.
At water level, twin garages are integrated into the hull. The starboard garage stores tenders, jet skis and diving equipment before converting into a beach club once the toys have been launched. The yacht's primary tenders include a 9.5m (31.2ft) Hodgdon limousine tender and an 8m (26.2ft) Hodgdon open tender.
Interior Design
If the exterior reflects the owner's appetite for bold design, the interior reflects his lifelong connection with luxury automobiles. Chambers built his business through high-end car dealerships, and Winch Design drew on that world throughout the yacht.
The most dramatic space is the central atrium. Rising through three decks and framed by towering glass panels, it creates a visual connection between the main deck, bridge deck and owner's deck. Standing at the upper balustrades, guests can look down almost 10m (32.8ft) into the saloon below. The space feels closer to a contemporary building than a traditional yacht interior.
Automotive references appear throughout. The main saloon's black-and-white concentric floor and ceiling details recall the whitewall tyres of classic American cars. Double-stitched leatherwork echoes high-end sports car interiors, while ventilation grilles were designed to resemble the front grille of a luxury automobile. The day heads draw inspiration from cars such as the Ferrari Daytona Spyder and Bugatti Royale, while sofa backrests in the sky lounge reference classic Cadillac seating.
The material palette is exceptionally rich. More than 30 varieties of marble appear throughout the yacht, with golden onyx accounting for a significant proportion of the stonework. Quarried in Chile, its honey-coloured tones appear throughout guest areas and the owner's bathrooms. Winch Design paired the stone with tamo ash, ripple sycamore, amboyna burr, Macassar ebony and extensive use of fine Italian leather.
Mirrors are used with remarkable restraint and precision. Rather than acting as decoration, they extend sightlines and amplify natural light entering through the vast glazed surfaces. Mirrored strips at ceiling level subtly increase the apparent volume of cabins, while hidden mirrored panels around ventilation shafts help mechanical systems disappear into the architecture.
Guest facilities include a dedicated nine-seat cinema, a library and office, a gym larger than those aboard the owner's previous yachts, a spa and sauna with large windows, and a beach club linked to the tender garage. One particularly clever detail sits above the beach club. The pool on the main deck incorporates a glass floor panel that filters moving patterns of light into the space below, creating a constantly changing effect as sunlight passes through the water.
Despite the quantity of marble, timber and leather, the atmosphere remains remarkably relaxed. Deep cream sofas, warm colours and rounded forms prevent the interior from feeling formal or intimidating, despite the scale of the yacht and the richness of the materials.
Accommodation
Excellence accommodates up to 14 guests across seven cabins and carries a crew of 19.
The owner's accommodation occupies an entire private deck. Forward sits a panoramic owner's suite finished in Macassar ebony, with custom carpets featuring crocodile-pattern tufting by Oliver Treutlein. Woven silver detailing gives the window mullions the appearance of carbon fibre, continuing the automotive influences found throughout the yacht.
The owner's deck functions more like a private penthouse than a conventional suite. In addition to the stateroom itself, the deck includes a private lounge aft that opens onto a terrace with seating areas and a private pool. Separate his-and-hers bathrooms are finished extensively in honey-coloured golden onyx, one of the yacht's signature materials.
Guest accommodation follows a different philosophy from many yachts of this size. Rather than creating a hierarchy of suites, Excellence provides six guest cabins of almost identical size. Each spans approximately 25m² (269ft²), ensuring there is no obvious "best cabin" among guests. Large windows bring natural light into every suite, while bespoke headboards, fine woods and Italian leather detailing give each cabin its own identity.
The six guest suites occupy the main deck rather than the lower deck, allowing them to benefit from larger windows and stronger connections to the sea. Forward on the same deck sits the yacht's dedicated cinema.
Crew accommodation is arranged for 19 crew members, with crew quarters located forward on the lower deck and dedicated accommodation for the captain and first officer adjacent to the bridge.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V 4000 M65R) 12-cylinder 2,029hp engines, motor yacht Excellence is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. With her 150,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 6,300 nautical miles at 14 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. Rest and relaxation can be achieved on board, thanks to a luxury spa and sauna. Waterfront living can be enjoyed to the fullest, thanks to a large beach club and connecting swim platform with plenty of space for sitting back and admiring the sea views. In addition, full cinema facilities ensure five-star entertainment. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and underwater lights will turn plenty of heads when the sun goes down. Excellence also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
