On Deck
The outboards are the headline aft with brand new Mercury 425s on this hull, with the model range rated for 2 x V8 or V10 up to 850hp total. The swim platforms are broad and easy to move around - very usable on a twin-outboard setup, and not the usual narrow ledges you have to tiptoe along. There’s a boarding grab rail on the outboard side and fresh flexiteek laid along both quarters, it looks upscale and also saves the gelcoat when bags or gear bump the corners.
The Saxdor 400 GTS has a beam of 3.5 m/11.5 ft as standard but it opens to almost 5.0 m/16.4 ft with the fold-out bulwarks deployed and these wings run long, from the stern past midships. It changes the boat at anchor with more room to walk, sit, jump in, and just dangle feet in the water.
Shore-power inlet is tucked under its own hatch. Battery-switch access is right at hand. A drop-in barbecue lives under a lid with a little heat-deflector insert to help you cook faster, plus two big storage bays beside it. Quick-connect washdown and a transom shower sit at the ready.
The aft cockpit has s a ridiculous amount of soft space for up to ten friends sprawling without elbows touching. When you want a table instead of a sunpad, the mechanism can slide, flip, and the table appears. The aft bench is due a production upgrade like the Saxdor 400 GTO reversible module: a seat base lifts and the backrest swaps direction, so you’ll be able to create two forward-facing rows plus the aft bench for three rows total.
Unique to the 400 GTS is the sliding wind-deflector panel at the forward end of the cockpit. Slide it shut and you’re out of the breeze and spray in cold climates or rain and slide it open and the boat breathes like a pure open. Pair that with the big sliding roof and you can tune this deck from sun-lover to snug in seconds.
The galley module sits just forward of the lounge with cupholders both sides, pop-up courtesy lights, a sink, two-burner cooktop, and a grill. There’s a built-in ice box, a huge trash bin, deep drawers, and space for a drink fridge plus an icemaker.
Helm Station
Three helm seats on pedestals each rotate and lock in multiple positions. Underway they face forward as usual; at anchor you can swing one, two, or all three aft to join the conversation around the cockpit and galley. There’s even a fishing position with a rod holder within reach and a cupholder for the beer, which is the sort of small quality-of-life thing this boat keeps delivering. Footrests are integrated with a folding rest for the helm seats and a separate fold-down for the sliding-door seat to starboard. At the helm the integration looks surprisingly high-end for the price point: dual flush-mounted Simrad displays in a clean fascia, throttle and shift by the right hand, joystick, trim tabs, bow thruster, horn and lighting banks, bilge switches, and a neat Saxdor-branded storage pouch under the dash for phones and bits.
Hardtop and Foredeck
The hardtop roof has a massive opening sunroof (perfect for Florida or Mediterranean cruising) and it can close up tight to trap warmth on colder coastal runs. Combine that with the forward wind panel and the deck transforms from breezy open cruiser to snug runabout in seconds. Saxdor also made the starboard side semi-walkaround, which keeps interior headroom while still giving a quick path from the helm to handle lines or fenders.
Forward, the deck carries a comfortable lounge for four with space for a removable table. Storage lockers beneath the seats are properly finished on both sides – even the designer asked that detail be noticed. A large hatch in the bow brings light into the cabin below.
The anchor arm sits flush in the bow and only pivots out as you pay out chain, giving the hull a smooth, uninterrupted look. There’s also a washdown point up front, and the hardtop carries radar, antennas, and navigation lights neatly on top.
Interior Accommodation
You get to the cabin in the coolest way - the whole aft lounge lifts up and slides back. It’s such a slick bit of engineering. On this hull, the cabin is optional, so you can go full toy garage if you want, or outfit it properly for overnighting. If you do go for the cabin, it even comes with air-conditioning, a couple of big windows on both sides, and an opening porthole for a breeze.
Inside, the Saxdor 400 GTS feels way more upscale than you’d expect for a 40ft boat in this price range. Saxdor clearly stepped things up here - the lighting’s warm, the windows flood in daylight, and the finish looks like something from a much bigger yacht. The bed runs across the beam with a built-in shelf that works as your nightstand. There’s extra storage along the sides, and the push-button breaker panel is all neatly laid out.
Under the stairs is a surprise little crawl-in space - right now it’s storage, but if you’ve got a kid or guest on board, it’s an instant mini-berth.
Everything’s done in light wood tones and clean lines, so it feels fresh, easy, and bright - very Scandinavian, but with a warm “come-on-in” vibe.
The en suite keeps that same practical-but-pretty balance. It’s a wet head with a shower, and the molded sink has storage underneath, there’s a mirrored medicine cabinet, and they even threw in a fold-down counter piece for extra elbow room.
Performance
This hull of the Saxdor 400 GTS runs with twin Mercury outboards - brand new 425s, the first ones seen on a 400. The model can be equipped with either V8s or V10s, giving a combined output of up to 850 horsepower.
Cruising speed sits between 33 and 40 knots, and the boat tops out around 50 knots. Fuel capacity is 251 gallons or 950 liters, with a draft of 2 feet 6 inches (0.75 m), a beam of 11 feet 7 inches (3.53 m), and a length overall of 40 feet 7 inches (12.4 m).
The boat is fitted with trim tabs, a joystick, and throttle and shift controls at the helm. These are positioned alongside dual Simrad chartplotters, a bow thruster, and the usual switch panels.
Ownership Considerations
If you line the 400 GTS up against the other Saxdor 400s, it’s the sportiest and most open of the bunch. The Saxdor 400 GTO sits closer to a hardtop dayboat, while the Saxdor 400 GTC has more enclosure and interior space for cooler climates. The GTS, though, is the full fresh-air version - more terrace, more open cockpit, less cabin. It shares the same stepped hull as its siblings, so performance sits right in that same 33 to 40-knot cruising range. A close match for the Saxdor 400 GTS is the Axopar 37 Sun-Top - another fast, open day cruiser built around twin outboards, big social deck space, and the same 40-foot spot for owners who spend most of their time out in the sun rather than inside a cabin.
When it comes to ownership, the setup stays refreshingly straightforward. With twin outboards, regular servicing is easy - your local Mercury dealer can handle most of it - and you avoid the kind of tight engine-room access that comes with inboards. The moving parts on the GTS, like the foldable bulwarks and sliding roof, will need a bit of routine care, but nothing out of the ordinary if you stay on top of cleaning, greasing, and sealing. The open deck means a little more exposure to weather, so the hardware and fittings just need the usual rinse and attention after every salty weekend.
Saxdor does reference a warranty in the owner’s manual for the 400 GTC, described as a guarantee of the boat’s integrity and the builder’s responsibility. The terms themselves aren’t publicly detailed, so owners will need to get the written warranty and coverage period directly from their dealer. It’s worth doing that at purchase, since regional distributors may handle claims and service differently depending on where the boat’s based. The Mercury engines come with their own service and warranty program, so as long as you log every interval and use official parts, coverage should hold. Because the 400 GTS is still new, early owners may get more direct support from the factory, but that varies by region. The main thing is to make sure your dealer can supply parts and service locally. It’s a young model line, but the upside is that you’re getting something fresh and innovative in the 40-foot range that still feels easy to own.
In Summary
The Saxdor 400 GTS feels like the brand hitting its stride - bold, fun, and smartly built for people who actually want to use their boat. It’s quick, social, and easy to live with, proving that “affordable luxury” isn’t just a tagline when it’s done this well.
