Delivered in 1990, Uh Oh is a 117' motor yacht built by Swiftships. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Fry Associates Inc. - Fryco, while Claudette Bonville is responsible for her interior design.

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 25' beam and a 5'10" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 270 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Owner's Brief

This 35.66m (117ft) aluminium yacht, designed for serious voyaging and exploration, took shape with a clear brief from her experienced owner. He wanted a vessel built for tranquillity and discovery, particularly in the Yucatan Peninsula and the River Amazon.

How did they do it?

From the beginning, the build was a collaborative effort between Swiftships of Morgan City, Louisiana, & Fryco, Houston, Texas. Swiftships, with a solid history of fabricating over 400 aluminium vessels for the US Navy, Coast Guard, & various commercial clients, proved a natural choice. This shipyard, known for its rugged, reliable boats, was well-suited to bring about the owner's dream.

Challenges emerged, of course. Constructing a yacht capable of long-range cruising while maintaining a shallow draught required innovation. The hull, derived from Fryco's F-1000 Series, had to be modified extensively. Tip-tunnels over the propellers reduced the draught, enabling better exploration of both the Caribbean & the Amazon.

Every square metre of Safe Conduct II’s arrangement was designed for effortless flow & access for both guests & crew. Fuel & water tanks, integral to the hull below the accommodation, maximized space. The hull structure met American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requirements, featuring five watertight compartments for added safety.

2007/8 Refit

Now renamed Rebecca, she underwent a two-and-a-half-year refit. This project was driven by the owner's desire to honour his late wife, Rebecca, known for her exemplary Southern hospitality.

The project initially began as a minor refit at Global Ship Systems. However, unexpected issues with the black-water system led to an extensive overhaul:

Discovery of black-water system failure
Complete gutting of the yacht, except the engine room
Replumbing & rewiring the entire vessel
Shift from Global Ship Systems to Hinckley yard due to the former's closure

Structurally, the engine room was the only untouched area, as it was in excellent condition. On the exterior, new plates were installed in the freeboard. A sleek 12.5-foot (3.8-metre) extension to the flying bridge created a fabulous party deck with a spa pool. The entire interior, including all bulkheads, was replaced. Claudette Bonville Associates designed a new upscale style featuring makoré wood base with Khaya crotch mahogany & madrone burl inlays. Extensive hardwood trims in walnut & cherry were added, along with innovative storage solutions inspired by Gulfstream private jets.

Craftsmanship

The woodworking on Rebecca was a highlight. André Dyer & his team from the South African master woodworkers guild took over mid-project, delivering the millwork. They handcrafted intricate details such as a stair-rail balustrade emulating cranes & low country grasses and bronze cast custom-designed drapery holdbacks by Georgia blacksmith Ivan Bailey.

The refit saw an average of 30-35 people working daily. Captain Richard Johnson, who led the crew for years, played an important role in maintaining morale & teamwork. The yacht’s new insignia, a cast of Rebecca's signature, was a heartfelt nod to her legacy.
