Vela is a 50m sail yacht delivered by Custom in 2022. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Tresno Seery, while Natacha Tanguy is responsible for her interior design.

Key Features

  • 50m (164.0ft) Indonesian sailing yacht
  • Twin-mast traditional phinisi rig
  • 40m² (430ft²) owner’s suite
  • Dive-ready with compressor onboard

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement wood hull and superstructure she features a 9.75m beam and a 3.8m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 323 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

The sailing yacht Vela presents a traditional Indonesian phinisi profile, measuring approximately 50m (164.0ft), with a dark hull, high bow, and a long, low superstructure finished in warm-toned timber. Twin masts define the silhouette, carrying large white sails that contrast against the darker hull, while exposed rigging and spars reinforce the yacht’s classic sailing character.

The deck layout is open and practical, with wide side decks and clear walkways running fore and aft, so movement around the yacht remains easy even under sail. The bow is kept clean and uncluttered, while the foredeck and aft deck are arranged for guest use, with flexible spaces for dining, lounging, and activities.

Outdoor living plays a central role, with multiple areas set up for dining both forward and aft, and removable shading that allows the decks to adapt to different conditions. A dedicated yoga and relaxation space sits within the upper deck structure.

Interior Design

The interior of Vela is designed by Natacha Tanguy, and it follows a warm, natural palette built around Indonesian craftsmanship, with dark woods, soft fabrics, and handcrafted details used throughout.

The main salon is arranged as a social hub, with a lounge area, bar, and wine storage integrated into one open space, while large windows bring in natural light and maintain constant views outside. The design avoids heavy partitioning, so the interior feels open and connected, while still offering defined areas for dining and relaxation.

Materials are kept natural and tactile, with a mix of wood, stone, and textiles, and decorative elements draw on regional influences, including Indigenous art and sculptural pieces.

Accommodation

Vela accommodates up to 12 guests across six cabins, including a 40m² (430ft²) owner’s suite and a 35m² (377ft²) VIP cabin, both designed with generous proportions and large windows.

The owner’s suite includes a king bed, a private living area, a writing desk, and access to a large private terrace with 180-degree views, while the en suite bathroom features dual marble vanities, an oversized bathtub, and premium fittings. The VIP cabin also features a king bed, large marble vanity, and similar detailing, while the remaining guest cabins follow a consistent design language with modern amenities and en suite bathrooms.

She is also capable of carrying up to 18 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

Motor yacht Vela is capable of reaching a top speed of 14 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots.
