Merinos is the first GX Superyachts GX42 RPH. Built at SES Shipyard, she features exterior and interior design by Marco Casali, with naval architecture and engineering input from NAMES, alongside a parallel diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system.
First look inside Merinos
Casali has given the interior a warm, understated character, using walnut, Italian leather, stone and neutral fabrics throughout. Broad-radius curves appear across the ceiling details, furniture, mirrors, cabinetry and architectural openings, while backlit Turkish marble, liquid-metal panels and curated artworks provide focal points. Floor-to-ceiling windows maximise natural light, complemented by direct and indirect lighting from Ultra Luce. The main social spaces include a saloon and dining area for 10, with the interior designed around the owners' priorities for a family-friendly yacht suited to longer periods aboard.
Upper deck connects inside and out
The Raised Pilot House configuration gives Merinos an elegantly curved superstructure and low-profile upper deck. This expansive level is one of the superyacht's main social areas, incorporating lounging spaces, sunbeds, a bar and Jacuzzi while strengthening the connection between interior and exterior living.
The upper surfaces also form part of the motor yacht's technical package, incorporating approximately 27kWp of photovoltaic generation. Solar panels are integrated into areas including elements associated with the opening sundeck wing arrangement, feeding energy into the yacht's wider electrical system when conditions allow.
Five-cabin accommodation
Merinos has a five-cabin layout, with a full-beam owner's suite positioned on the main deck. The suite has access to a private foredeck terrace, while the lower deck accommodates a VIP suite with a fold-down balcony and three additional guest cabins.
Parallel-hybrid propulsion
Merinos uses a parallel diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system based around two MAN main engines and conventional shaftlines. The diesel engines retain a mechanical connection to the propeller shafts, while electric machines are integrated into the propulsion train, allowing mechanical and electrical power to be used independently or together according to the operating mode.
The system is supported by approximately 938kWh of lithium iron phosphate battery capacity across 24 modules. GX Superyachts states that the batteries can support both propulsion-related functions and hotel loads, with a potential for up to 48 hours of zero-emission operation at anchor and a reduction in onboard electricity consumption of up to 45%. The builder notes that these figures are operating targets and depend on factors including hotel load, HVAC demand, ambient conditions, battery charge and solar contribution.
An efficiency-focused hull supports the yacht's long-range capabilities, with current project data indicating an economical cruising point of around nine knots and a quoted range exceeding 5,000 nautical miles.
GX Superyachts expands the GX42 RPH series
