Marina Port Vell Expands Into Caribbean With Biras Marina in British Virgin Islands

Marina Port Vell is expanding beyond the Mediterranean for the first time with the addition of Biras Marina in the British Virgin Islands, extending its superyacht marina platform from Barcelona to the Caribbean.

Announced by Marina Port Vell and majority shareholder Mirazur Capital, the move places Biras Marina on Virgin Gorda within the group’s growing marina network. It is the first expansion since Monaco-based Mirazur Capital acquired a controlling 52% interest in Marina Port Vell in June 2026.

Located in North Sound and forming part of Biras Creek Resort, the Caribbean marina offers 25 berths for yachts up to 70m (230ft), alongside 20 mooring buoys. Marina Port Vell will apply the operating approach and service standards developed at its Barcelona base to the Virgin Gorda facility.

Inside Biras Marina: 25 Berths for Superyachts Up to 70m

Biras Marina has been developed for both short and extended stays, giving visiting yachts access to a sheltered base within North Sound, one of the British Virgin Islands' established cruising areas.

Key facilities and specifications include:

  • 25 berths for yachts up to 70m
  • 20 mooring buoys
  • A 110m dock
  • Shore power and water
  • Internet access
  • Boat cleaning and catering services
  • A private helipad at Biras Creek Resort
  • Three dining options within the resort

The marina forms part of Biras Creek Resort, which reopened in December 2025 following an extended closure. The surrounding property includes dining venues and a multi-brand boutique, while a new collection of private villas is under development, with first deliveries expected from 2028.

Its position on Virgin Gorda also places the marina within easy reach of the wider BVI cruising ground. Guests can arrive by yacht or water taxi through North Sound, while air access is available via Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Tortola, followed by helicopter transfer to the resort.

For Marina Port Vell, the addition provides a Caribbean base serving a different cruising season from its Barcelona operation and extends the group's reach beyond the Mediterranean.

How Mirazur Capital Is Expanding Marina Port Vell Beyond Barcelona

The Biras Marina announcement arrives three months after Mirazur Capital acquired its majority interest in Marina Port Vell from QInvest. That June transaction gave the Monaco investment firm a 52% stake in the Barcelona marina, with the existing management team, led by Ignacio Erroz, remaining in place. Mirazur Capital stated at the time that the acquisition would support plans to develop an international portfolio of marinas in major yachting destinations.

Biras Marina is the first addition to the platform under that strategy and the first location where Marina Port Vell will take its operating model outside the Mediterranean.

Managing Director Ignacio Erroz said the focus at Biras would be on applying the systems developed in Barcelona and raising service and operational standards for owners, captains and crews. Mirazur Capital Managing Partner Marcos Pellejero Ibáñez described Virgin Gorda as an important step in the firm's expansion plans and a strategic connection between its Barcelona and Caribbean operations.

Mirazur Capital is headquartered in Monaco, with offices in Madrid and Luxembourg, and manages more than €1 billion in assets. Its investment activity spans several sectors, with superyacht marina acquisition and development forming part of its direct investment strategy.

Marina Port Vell Targets International Growth After Caribbean Expansion

Marina Port Vell provides a substantially larger operational base for the group in Barcelona. Situated close to the city center, the marina has 73 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 190m (623ft), supported by a 400m quay designed for some of the largest vessels in the fleet.

More than €20 million has been invested in the facility since 2021, with work focused on increasing capacity for large yachts and upgrading its infrastructure. The marina has also strengthened its role as a homeport and seasonal base for yachts operating across the western Mediterranean.

The move into Virgin Gorda gives the business a presence on both sides of the Atlantic at a time when many large yachts move between Mediterranean and Caribbean cruising seasons.

For Mirazur Capital, Biras Marina also provides the first indication of how its wider marina strategy could develop following the Marina Port Vell acquisition. Further locations have not yet been announced, but the company has made clear that its longer-term plan is to establish a network in strategically important yachting destinations.
