Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.3m beam and a 2.74m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 430 GT (Gross Tonnes).

She was delivered to her owners in April 1993.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Blue Star features a raked bow that enhances both its aesthetic appeal and navigational efficiency. The deck is crafted from high-quality teak, providing durability and a classic maritime look. The hull is painted in a striking blue, which is complemented by a white superstructure, creating a clean and modern contrast. Below the waterline, the hull is finished in black, ensuring a sleek and polished appearance.

The aft cockpit is equipped with a fishing cockpit and a transom-hung bathing platform, providing an entry point for guests boarding from the stern. From this area, guests can access the main aft deck via a short flight of stairs, where the two tenders, a 5.5m Scarib and a 5.8m Novamarine, are stowed. Another flight of stairs leads to the bridge deck, designed to welcome guests with wide vistas and comfortable lounging and dining areas shaded by large square umbrellas. This deck also includes a barbecue grill and bar, creating a comprehensive outdoor living space.

The side decks lead forward around the upper deck accommodation, meeting in front of the bridge. Steps descend from this point to a sitting and sunbathing area integrated into the forward slope of the superstructure. This use of space provides additional privacy when the yacht is docked stern-to. The sun deck above offers another private outdoor lounging area, complete with teak steamer chairs, upholstered sunbathing mattresses, a sauna built into the mast base, and a spa pool enclosed by curved smoked glass screens.

Interior Design

The interior design of Blue Star, conceived by Octavio Rezende, presents a modern and practical approach suitable for both charter and personal use. The use of bird's-eye maple, mirrors, and glass elements characterizes the interior spaces, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.

Upon entering from the starboard side deck, guests are welcomed by a lobby featuring a half-octagonal circular stairway lined with mirrors. This stairway extends to both the bridge deck and the guest accommodation below, adding a sense of spaciousness through the reflection of light and images.

The main saloon, designed for evening gatherings, is centered around a prominent pillar surrounded by seating. This area is divided into four distinct sections: a games area, a bar, and two conversation zones separated by a Yamaha Disklavier grand piano. The decor includes a mural inspired by the trans-Atlantic liner Normandie, adding a touch of historical design influence. The room's layout and features, such as the mirrored ceiling, make it suitable for pre-dinner cocktails and post-dinner relaxation.

The dining saloon, located aft of the lobby, spans the full beam of the yacht. It features a 12-seater glass-topped table, mirrored walls with concealed storage, and Lalique-shaded wall lamps. The atmosphere is enhanced by a mythological mural and high-backed blue silk upholstered chairs, providing a formal dining environment.

The upper saloon, directly accessible from the aft bridge deck, offers a less formal setting designed for relaxation and entertainment. This bright, family-oriented room is equipped for music, TV, and games, serving as an air-conditioned annex to the outdoor deck space.

The galley, adjacent to the dining saloon, is equipped with commercial catering appliances and ample storage for dry, refrigerated, and frozen food. While functional, it has a design flaw with a door that opens directly into the dining area, potentially exposing the galley space to diners.

The helm area on the bridge deck is practical and designed to accommodate guest visits. It includes leather settee seating, providing a comfortable spot for guests to observe navigation activities. This space is designed with functionality in mind and integrates seamlessly with the guest areas.

Accommodation

Blue Star is designed to host up to 12 guests across six well-appointed staterooms. The master suite is situated on the main deck, forward of the dining saloon. This expansive suite includes a luxurious master stateroom complemented by a marble-lined bathroom and spa bath. Additionally, there is a secondary, smaller bedroom with an en suite shower room, making it suitable for family use. The secondary room can also be converted into an office or gym, depending on the requirements.

On the lower deck, four additional guest staterooms are arranged around a central lobby. These include two double cabins and two twin cabins. Each stateroom is equipped with a TV, desk, vanity, and a sitting area, along with a fully fitted bathroom. The layout ensures that each guest enjoys a private and comfortable space.

Blue Star also features dedicated living quarters for a crew of nine. The crew is accommodated in four twin-bunked cabins, each opening off a large mess-room equipped with a small galley. This setup ensures that the crew can provide high-quality service while maintaining their own comfort and privacy.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3508 DITA) 8-cylinder 855hp engines, motor yacht Blue Star is capable of reaching a top speed of 12 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots. With her 52,990 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,400 nautical miles at 10 knots.
