Design & Construction

Designed around a steel hull she features a 8.2m beam. The yacht has an internal volume of 390 GT (Gross Tonnes).

This was the first yacht built in the series.

Exterior Design

The Ice Explorer 40M is a 40m (131.3ft) explorer yacht designed for owners who want to cross oceans and spend time far from marinas, but without stepping into the much larger 500GT-plus expedition yacht market.

Seri Design has given the yacht a clean, workboat-inspired profile. The bow rises almost vertically from the waterline, with little overhang and a deep forefoot that suits the yacht's RINA Ice Class 1D rating. From the side, the shape feels compact and purposeful. There are no sweeping curves or decorative features. Instead, the design relies on strong horizontal lines, dark glazing bands, and a high wheelhouse that gives the yacht the look of a vessel built to travel.

The 8.2m (26.9ft) beam plays a large role in the yacht's appearance. It gives the hull a broad, planted stance and allows the superstructure to stretch almost the full width of the deckhouse. Large sections of dark glass run through the main and upper decks, breaking up the mass of the white topsides and giving the yacht a lighter look than many steel explorers of similar volume.

The renderings show a practical deck arrangement with wide side decks, deep bulwarks, and substantial guardrails suited to offshore use. A large aft deck provides space for tenders and expedition gear, while the upper aft deck creates a sheltered outdoor lounge. Forward of the wheelhouse, the foredeck is arranged as a private retreat with a spa pool surrounded by sunpads and sofas. The raised position gives guests an uninterrupted view ahead, whether anchored in a fjord, crossing an ocean, or working through ice-strewn waters.

At 390GT, the yacht packs a surprising amount of volume into a 40m platform. The proportions are closer to those of a small expedition ship than a traditional Mediterranean motor yacht, which explains the boxier deckhouse and high freeboard.

Interior Design

The interior takes a very different approach from the exterior. Where the outside feels rugged and purposeful, the living spaces are calm, light, and deliberately understated.

The renderings show a palette built around pale oak flooring, soft beige fabrics, light wall panels, and warm indirect lighting. Rather than relying on exotic woods, glossy finishes, or heavy detailing, the design uses simple forms and clean surfaces to create a relaxed atmosphere suited to extended time aboard.

The main salon makes full use of the yacht's beam. Large windows stretch almost from floor to ceiling, bringing in daylight and maintaining a constant connection with the outside world. Loose furniture keeps sightlines open through the room, while the dining area sits naturally within the same space rather than behind partitions or bulkheads. The result feels more like a modern apartment than a traditional yacht salon.

Storage appears well integrated throughout the design. Cabinetry is built into the architecture rather than added afterwards, which helps preserve the uncluttered feel. This is an important detail on an explorer yacht where guests may spend weeks aboard and need space for equipment, clothing, and provisions.

The owner's bathroom gives a good indication of the yacht's intended character. A freestanding bath sits at the centre of the room, framed by twin showers, broad vanity units, and full-height storage. Large windows bring in natural light, while the neutral colour scheme keeps the space bright even in poorer weather conditions often encountered on high-latitude voyages.

Accommodation

Ice Explorer 40M offers accommodation for up to 10 guests in 5 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 7 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

Motor yacht Ice Explorer 40M is capable of reaching a top speed of 14 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. She has a maximum range of 4,800 nautical miles at an economic speed of 10 knots making her well capable of long range and transatlantic voyages.
