Jet Ruban Bleu is a 82' motor yacht delivered by Chantier Multiplast in 1990.

Key Features

  • Purpose-built transatlantic speed record boat
  • Waterjet propulsion for fuel-heavy runs
  • Carbon sandwich composite hull structure
  • Exceeded 55 knots on trials

Design & Construction

Designed around a planing GRP hull and superstructure she features a 14'5" beam. The yacht is built over 2 decks.

Accommodation

Jet Rubin Bleu was a purpose-built record boat rather than a cruising yacht. Onboard accommodation was minimal and functional, intended to support a small operational crew during long-distance attemptst. Any additional personnel carried were there for media or logistical reasons. During the Atlantic attempts onboard were skipper Serge Madec, offshore technicians drawn from the Jet Services V programme, an engine mechanic and additional non-operational personnel, including French astronaut Patrick Baudry.

Performance & Capabilities

Jet Rubin Bleu was designed to operate at sustained very high speeds over long distances, with trial speeds exceeding 55 knots in favourable conditions. The project targeted a transatlantic record pace rather than conventional cruising performance. Range was driven by fuel capacity for record attempts but potentially could reach up to 3,000 nautical miles, and the hull was optimised for flat-water running at speed.
