Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.98m beam and a 1.9m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 333 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2008. This was the fourth yacht built on the Westport W130 design. Launched in January 2010 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in August 2010.
Exterior Design
Rule No.1 is a 40m (131.2ft) Westport motor yacht, and her exterior follows the builder’s established tri-deck layout, so the profile is clean and balanced with strong horizontal lines and large bands of glazing. The foredeck combines working anchor gear with a seating area, and it also includes space for an open-air gym just ahead of the wheelhouse, so it adds a practical edge to the forward deck.
The main deck aft is arranged for dining and social use, with seating for up to 10 guests, a wet bar and an overhead fold-down TV, while twin staircases lead down to the swim platform for direct water access. The layout feels open and easy to move through, with clear sightlines across the deck.
Up on the upper deck aft, the space works as a mix of storage and leisure, with a crane and tender stowage set alongside a lounge area with a grill and another fold-down TV. Once toys are launched, this area opens up for guest use, so it shifts between functions depending on the day.
The sundeck is the main social hub, with dining for 10 under the hardtop, a wet bar and pop-up TV, as well as a forward hot tub surrounded by sunpads. Sun loungers sit aft, so the deck splits cleanly between shaded dining and open relaxation.
Interior Design
Inside, Rule No.1 reflects a recent refit completed in 2024, with interior design by Destry Darr. The finish combines warm wood tones with lighter furnishings, so the spaces feel updated while keeping a familiar Westport layout.
The main salon is open-plan, with port and starboard seating arranged around low tables, and with a formal dining area integrated into the same space. Large windows bring in strong natural light, which keeps the room bright through the day.
Forward, the galley includes a breakfast bar and direct access to the main deck, so it supports both casual dining and full service. Equipment and layout are set up for regular charter use, with enough prep space and storage for extended trips.
The skylounge on the upper deck offers a more relaxed setting, with a bar, fireplace, built-in shelving and lounge seating, and it connects directly to the aft deck. This area works as a second living space, with a quieter tone than the main salon.
Accommodation
Rule No.1 accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins, with a main deck owner’s suite positioned forward. The suite includes a walk-in wardrobe, a study area and an en suite bathroom finished with quartz surfaces, a double vanity and a large shower.
On the lower deck, guest accommodation includes two VIP cabins and two twin cabins, each with en suite bathrooms. The twin cabins also include Pullman berths, so the layout can adapt for additional guests when required.
Crew accommodation supports up to seven across four cabins, with a captain’s cabin, an engineer’s cabin aft and additional bunked cabins forward, allowing for smooth day-to-day operation on board.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V 4000 M90) 12-cylinder 2,735hp engines running at 2100rpm, motor yacht Rule No.1 is capable of reaching a top speed of 22 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 37,722 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 2,200 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
