Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 12.8m beam and a 4m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 2,159 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in late 2002 with the keel laid under the project name 'Lana'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Samar's tender garage is designed to accommodate a Chris-Craft Corsair 36, which can be driven in and out under its own power. Additionally, two 7.6-meter Chris-Craft tenders are deployed using sliding beam gantry cranes that extend to port and starboard when the shell side doors are opened.
The foredeck hosts the rescue boat and crew tender, managed by a centerline crane. While initial plans to include an amphibious car and a small submarine were abandoned, Samar still carries a Bell helicopter and a Mini Cooper S, along with numerous bicycles. The helicopter can be refueled and maintained onboard, supported by a full-time pilot.
The exterior also includes several social and relaxation areas. The sun deck features large pads around a compact swimming pool, while the bridge deck is equipped with a walk-round Portuguese bridge and a highly functional wheelhouse. The aft main deck offers a spacious area for formal alfresco dining, complete with sofas, a large curved bar, and a dining table that can accommodate 14 guests.
Interior Design
The main saloon and dining room feature large windows and three-meter-high deckheads, reminiscent of the public rooms on historic luxury liners. The lighting is shadowless, emanating from the perimeter of rooms and concealed fittings in the ceilings. The design theme leans towards English elegance, with fine art, stunning antiques, and beautiful floor coverings.
The floors in the guest cabins are constructed of wood, predominantly oak, or marble, with fine old Persian carpets adding a softening touch. Antique clocks and ancient nautical instruments serve as decoration, while 18th and 19th-century art pieces adorn the bulkheads. Each piece of stand-alone furniture is handmade, primarily in workshops managed by the designer.
A large central marble spiral staircase and three lifts provide access to all decks. Each deck level includes a fully equipped kitchen or pantry, allowing guests to make snacks or drinks independently. The sun deck includes a compact swimming pool with surrounding pads for sunbathing and a well-equipped gymnasium. The gym features paneled walls with mirrors and Etruscan-style frescoes, a paneled curved ceiling with backlit squares, and an aft wall of glass for abundant light. The room can be converted into a space for music videos, with dimmable lights, blackout windows, and a projection screen.
On the bridge deck, the wheelhouse behind a walk-round Portuguese bridge is fully equipped, including leather sofas and a large plasma television. The media room on this deck offers a comfortable space with an advanced sound-and-screen setup, and a card and chess table with mock 18th-century chairs. The owner’s office is accessible from the media room and features high-tech equipment alongside traditional furniture, 19th-century paintings, and ancient nautical artifacts. Antique clocks in the office add a harmonious sound with their chimes. Glass doors lead to the covered bridge deck bar and dining area, with a circular table and adjustable chairs.
Accommodation
Samar offers sophisticated accommodation for an owner's party of up to 14 guests. The owner's suite is an oval-shaped bedroom that reflects the owner's affinity for unique shapes and spaciousness. It features a large double bed illuminated by a substantial circular skylight. Accompanying this is a shower room located to starboard and a walk-in dressing room to port. The suite is further personalized with family pictures and heirlooms, creating a homely yet elegant atmosphere.
In addition to the owner's suite, Samar boasts several guest cabins located on the lower deck. This includes two VIP suites, each tastefully decorated and equipped with essential amenities. These suites provide a refrigerator for cold drinks and automated controls for climate settings, window screens, lighting, and the entertainment system, ensuring a comfortable stay.
She is also capable of carrying up to 24 crew. The crew quarters include a mess with a separate galley for the crew chef, a lounge, and a large, industrially equipped laundry room. The crew's five-deck area is meticulously planned to support long voyages, with extensive storage options and dedicated rooms for various provisions.
