Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement wood hull and superstructure she features a 9.5m beam and a 3.8m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 441 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Launched in July 2013 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.
Exterior Design
The 53m (173ft) sailing yacht Zen is built in the style of a traditional Indonesian phinisi schooner, and her twin-mast rig, high bow, and extended stern platform define a profile that is both functional and regionally authentic. The hull carries a warm-toned finish with a long run of portholes, while the superstructure sits low and stretched, so the yacht keeps a strong horizontal line across the water.
Deck space is arranged for outdoor living, with wide walkaround side decks linking the bow, midships, and stern areas, and multiple zones set up for dining, lounging, and sunbathing. The aft deck opens out toward the water with a large overhang and extended swim platform, while loose furniture and sunpads allow the layout to shift depending on use.
Forward and aft sections provide clear open areas, so guests can use the space for yoga, exercise, or relaxed seating, while removable canvas shading adds protection without closing the deck in. The overall layout keeps the working sailing areas separate but integrated, so the yacht retains full sailing function without compromising guest space.
Interior Design
Inside, Zen follows a clear Asian-inspired theme, with dark wood panelling, carved detailing, and decorative pieces that bring a strong regional identity into the living spaces. The main salon sits as the social core, with a central bar, surrounding lounge seating, and a dining area arranged within one open-plan space.
Large windows and portholes draw in natural light, while soft furnishings and layered textures balance the darker joinery. Sculptures, ornaments, and curated decorative elements sit throughout the interior, and these details give the yacht a distinct character without crowding the space.
Air conditioning and Wi-Fi are integrated throughout, so while the styling leans traditional, the onboard systems meet modern charter expectations. The overall feel is relaxed and informal, with seating arranged for groups and shared use rather than formal separation.
Accommodation
Zen offers flexible accommodation depending on layout, with capacity for up to 16 guests across six cabins, including a master suite that forms part of a two-level arrangement with an adjoining cabin, which works well for families.
The remaining cabins are configured as doubles, and each follows the same material palette as the main interior, with dark wood finishes, soft lighting, and practical storage. Cabin layouts are kept straightforward, with en suite facilities and enough space for extended stays on board.
Crew numbers reach up to 18, and this includes a dive instructor and cruise director, so guest support extends beyond service into activity planning and guided experiences across regions such as Komodo, Bali, and Raja Ampat.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by Doosan (V180TIH) 591hp engines, motor yacht Zen is capable of reaching a top speed of 10 knots, and comfortably cruises at 8 knots.
Amenities
Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
