61m Leapher Polar Explorer Yacht Horizon Launched in the Netherlands

The 61m polar explorer yacht Horizon has officially been launched at the yard's facility in Tolkamer, the Netherlands, marking a major milestone ahead of her scheduled 2026 completion.

Designed inside and out by Cor D. Rover Design, with naval architecture by Van Oossanen Naval Architects and O7 Designers, the Leapher Yachts vessel enters the water as a 1,753GT long-range platform engineered to venture where few yachts will ever go.

Her mast has not yet been installed, as the yacht must pass beneath several bridges during her transit. She will now be moved to Vlissingen, where the mast will be stepped and final outfitting works completed ahead of commissioning and subsequent sea trials. Previously known under the project name Lazarus, Horizon has been under construction since her keel was laid in 2023.

Engineered for High-Latitude Cruising

Horizon has been conceived as a true explorer. Her displacement steel hull is strengthened for light ice operations, granting access to higher latitude cruising grounds, while her structure is rated for moderate to heavy sea states. With a beam of 12.8m and a draft of 3.8m, she presents a purposeful profile that prioritizes volume and endurance over speed.

Her internal volume of 1,753 gross tons places her firmly in the upper tier of 60m yachts, with the scale to support extended autonomy. Lloyd’s Register standards governed her build, reinforcing her credentials as a yacht engineered for demanding itineraries.

Range is central to the concept. Horizon carries 170,000 liters of fuel, supporting a maximum range of 9,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. That endurance, paired with a freshwater capacity of 91,000 liters and a stated autonomy of up to 40 days, positions her for prolonged operation well beyond established cruising circuits.

Systems Built for Remote Operation

Power on the yacht for sale comes from four Scania Sever electric motors delivering a total of 2,800kW. The hybrid propulsion setup enables flexible energy management across long passages and in environmentally sensitive areas. Twin screw propellers drive her to a top speed of 12 knots, with a cruising speed of 10 knots.

Dynamic positioning has been integrated, enabling the yacht to maintain station without anchoring - a practical advantage in remote or protected regions where seabed impact must be avoided. The engine room has been configured for automated monitoring, reducing the need for constant manual oversight and supporting safe, long-duration operations.

Throughout the build, significant attention has been paid to the technical backbone. Power distribution, hydraulics, climate systems, and communications networks were installed and tested before interior structures were closed. The result is a densely engineered platform intended to operate reliably far from service hubs.

Expedition Capability with Superyacht Comfort

While Horizon is defined by capability, her onboard amenities align with contemporary superyacht expectations. Cor D. Rover Design has shaped both exterior styling and interior layout, ensuring visual cohesion across the the expansive decks on board the motor yacht for sale.

A dedicated diving room and tender garage reinforce her expedition credentials, while a helipad supports remote access and logistical flexibility. The yacht is also wheelchair accessible, broadening usability across guest profiles.
