WATCH: Lürssen Reveals Construction of 102m Custom Superyacht Nixie

Lürssen has released a behind-the-scenes film documenting the construction of the 102m superyacht Nixie, offering a rare look at the build process from the project's earliest stages through to launch, sea trials and final delivery.

Delivered earlier this year, Nixie was built by Lürssen with exterior and interior design by RWD. At approximately 3,420GT, the fully custom superyacht features expansive guest amenities including a multi-level beach club, swimming pool and certified helipad. The newly released film revisits the project, revealing how the yacht progressed from its first stages of construction to completion.

A rare look behind the build process

While Lürssen is known for delivering some of the world's biggest yachts, it rarely offers such detailed insight into how they are built. The film follows Nixie's transformation from the early stages of construction under her project name Jassi, capturing hull fabrication, block assembly, outfitting, launch preparations and sea trials before concluding with the finished yacht underway. Rather than focusing only on the completed vessel, the documentary highlights the years of planning, engineering and craftsmanship required to deliver a bespoke project exceeding 100 metres.

RWD's contemporary design takes shape

The construction footage also reveals how RWD's design evolved throughout the build. Nixie's long, low profile, layered deck arrangement and extensive curved glazing become increasingly apparent as the superstructure comes together, creating a yacht whose visual impact comes from clean proportions rather than decorative styling. Her aft terraces cascade towards the sea, culminating in a 126-square-metre beach club beneath a glass-bottom infinity pool, while the expansive foredeck accommodates a commercial-certified helipad that also functions as a sports court.

A bespoke yacht shaped around owner experience

Although much of the interior remains private, Nixie has been designed around light-filled living spaces finished with natural materials including oak, travertine and marble. Accommodation is arranged for up to 20 guests in 10 suites, while wellness facilities include a spa, sauna, beauty salon, 144-square-metre gym and waterside beach club. The film offers brief glimpses into the outfitting phase, illustrating how extensive technical installation and specialist craftsmanship transform the custom yacht from a structural build into a bespoke home on the water.

Following a project from concept to completion

Construction films such as this provide a unique perspective on the lifecycle of a custom motor yacht. First announced as Project JASSJ before becoming Jassi during construction and later receiving the name Nixie, the yacht progressed through several key milestones before her delivery in June 2026. The documentary not only records those milestones but also demonstrates the scale of coordination involved across design, engineering and outfitting teams throughout a multi-year build programme.

Lürssen continues delivering landmark custom projects

The release of the construction film follows Nixie's recent delivery and offers another insight into Lürssen's custom yacht-building expertise. According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the German shipyard currently has 10 yachts on order, reflecting continued demand for its bespoke superyachts. Recent highlights include the delivery of the 110m superyacht O3, featuring exterior design by Espen Øino and interiors by CG Design, while multiple projects continue to progress through construction across Lürssen's facilities.
