Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.7m beam and a 2.65m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the first yacht built on the 50Metri design. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in March 2019 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in June 2019.
Exterior Design
As the first yacht in the Riva 50 Metri series, Kinship set the point where Riva carried its design language into the superyacht market without losing the character that made the brand famous. Rather than follow the increasingly sculptural styling common among 50-metre yachts at the time, Officina Italiana Design chose restraint with a profile built around three uninterrupted horizontal lines and crisp, carefully judged proportions.
The yacht takes direct inspiration from Carlo Riva's Caravelle series of the 1960s. The Caravelle's long horizontal bands, clean deck breaks and distinctive parallelogram windows all reappear here in a modern take. Forward-sloping elements through the superstructure and carbon fibre hardtop create the impression of motion, while the stepped aft decks reduce the visual height of a yacht that stretches 49.9m (163.7ft).
Kinship's profile relies on contrast with a muted metallic silver hull and a low-gloss finish sits beneath deep bands of dark glazing that visually lengthen the superyacht. Black mast structures draw the eye upward without making the superstructure appear top-heavy.
Glass forms another defining element. Large windows run through the main and upper decks to bring natural light deep into the interior while maintaining uninterrupted views. The subdued exterior finish helps reduce glare through the glazing, a detail developed specifically to improve comfort inside.
Outdoor spaces were designed with cruising rather than static entertaining in mind. The foredeck provides sheltered seating where guests can remain outside while underway, while the sundeck sits beneath a forward-raked carbon fibre hardtop that continues the yacht's angular profile. Aft, a 7m tender launches through a shell door, allowing the garage to convert into a beach club. Even with the tender still aboard, the space remains large enough to function as an exercise area during passage. Hidden beneath the foredeck sunpads, hydraulic lifts conceal personal watercraft, keeping the deck clear without sacrificing storage.
Throughout the exterior, familiar Riva details appear in larger form. Stainless steel and mahogany handrails, polished brightwork, teak decking and even bespoke deck fittings carry the same design language found on the builder's smaller yachts. Rather than simply scale up an existing model, the 50 Metri adapts those recognisable elements to a yacht just below the 500GT threshold, creating a flagship that feels unmistakably like a Riva despite its size.
Interior Design
Officina Italiana Design rejected decorative excess in favour of a restrained palette built around white, grey and warm timber, creating a contemporary interpretation of traditional Riva craftsmanship. Dark mahogany, stainless steel, leather and grey-veined Statuario marble appear throughout the yacht, while extensive glazing keeps the spaces bright despite the richer materials.
One of the most distinctive details is the slatted mahogany ceiling treatment, which runs through the saloons, corridors and guest cabins. Besides adding texture and rhythm overhead, the narrow timber slats conceal the air-conditioning outlets within the gaps, allowing the ventilation system to disappear into the architecture. Similar continuity appears elsewhere, with teak flooring from the exterior carried into internal circulation spaces and the bridge so that materials flow naturally between inside and outside.
The main saloon uses full-height glazing and low furniture to maximise outward views, while mirrored surfaces and carefully placed display cabinets add depth without cluttering the space. Forward, the formal dining room connects directly to a pantry served by a dumb waiter from the lower deck galley, reflecting an owner-led layout that prioritised a larger master suite over a conventional main deck galley arrangement.
Piero Ferrari played an active role in shaping the interior, although the result is quite understated. A private media room beside the owner's suite displays selected Ferrari memorabilia and can convert into an additional guest cabin when required. At the bridge, the automotive influence becomes more obvious through a bespoke titanium steering wheel and a modified Ferrari California driver's seat.
Accommodation
Kinship accommodates up to 12 guests across five cabins, with a flexible layout developed around a full-beam owner's suite on the main deck and four guest cabins below comprising three doubles and one twin. The owner's decision to relocate the galley to the lower deck freed the entire forward section of the main deck for private accommodation.
Immediately aft of the owner's suite sits the media room, complete with its own en suite. Because the room was designed from the outset with overnight use in mind, it can convert into a sixth guest cabin when required, increasing accommodation from 10 to 12 guests.
Crew accommodation supports up to nine staff, with the lower deck galley linked to the guest decks by a dumb waiter serving three levels.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (8V 4000 M63) 8-cylinder 1,341hp engines running at 1800rpm, motor yacht Kinship is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. With her 55,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,500 nautical miles at an economic speed of 11 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
