Cannes, FranceThe 39m motor yacht Smooth Operator was delivered to her owners in 2010 by Jongert. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Guido de Groot Design, while Azure Naval Architects is responsible for her naval architecture.

Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 7.8m beam and a 2.2m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 320 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
Smooth Operator is a fascinating outlier in Jongert’s history. Delivered in 2011 as Lucia M, she was the Dutch yard’s first motor yacht after decades spent building large sailing yachts, so the brief was never going to be timid. Guido de Groot handled the exterior styling, while Azure Yacht Design developed the aluminium planing hull underneath.
The resulting yacht still looks unusually sleek for a 39m (127.9ft) boat. A metallic grey hull carries a long sweep of dark glazing, the bow runs low and fine, and the white superstructure is pulled back over the middle of the yacht rather than stacked high above it. The hardtop is similarly light, with a glass panel built into the roof and an electrically operated blind beneath it. From the side, almost everything is pulling the eye aft, which gives Smooth Operator a much faster look than most yachts of similar length and volume.
That appearance is backed up by what happens underneath. Jongert originally reported around 30 knots during sea trials, with the hull passing from displacement speed onto the plane without the pronounced hump typical of some heavier yachts. Current figures are a little more conservative, but Smooth Operator is still quoted at 26.4 knots flat out.
The flybridge is one of the more useful exterior spaces. A full bar, lounge and sunbathing area sit beneath the semi covered hardtop, with extra shade extending aft when needed. The transparent roof panel keeps the covered section bright, so it does not have the slightly enclosed feel that some hardtop decks can suffer from.
Aft, there is more outdoor dining and lounging space, while a quieter seating area is tucked forward near the bow. The stern houses the tender garage and Castoldi jet tender, so the main guest decks are not cluttered with boat storage.
Interior Design
Guido de Groot also designed Smooth Operator’s interior, using dark timber floors, cool grey finishes and grey marble to create a much more contemporary atmosphere than the yacht’s build year might suggest.
The main saloon is arranged around a large central lounge, with formal dining for up to 10 positioned forward. Long windows run down both sides, so the darker materials do not make the room feel gloomy, and the open plan arrangement keeps sightlines moving through the space.
There is a certain Dutch restraint to the interior. Decorative detail is controlled, materials are allowed to speak for themselves, and the layout feels more residential than theatrical. That suits the yacht rather well, because the exterior already provides plenty of drama.
The upper deck continues the same approach with another indoor lounge positioned close to the flybridge and aft entertaining areas. It gives guests somewhere quieter to retreat without taking too much space away from the exterior decks.
Accommodation
Smooth Operator currently accommodates up to 12 guests in five staterooms, with a full beam owner’s cabin and a mix of double and twin guest cabins.
The owner’s suite is the standout. It uses the full beam and is directly linked to a private gym and steam room, giving the owner a wellness area that feels genuinely private rather than shared with the rest of the yacht.
The en suite is equally unusual. A full size bathtub sits beneath a large electrically controlled skylight, which can be darkened for privacy at the touch of a button.
Crew accommodation is provided separately for up to five.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V4000M93) 3,650hp engines, motor yacht Smooth Operator is capable of reaching a top speed of 28 knots, and comfortably cruises at 25 knots. With her 44,500 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 1,800 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
