Design & Construction
This was the first yacht built on the Flexplorer 146 design. Launched in November 2023 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was completed at Cantiere delle Marche's Cantiere delle Marche yard in Italy where she was commissioned and delivered to her owners in February 2024.
After touring Maverick in our Flexplorer 146 Review, YachtBuyer awarded her the maximum five-star YachtBuyer Rating, earning her a place in the YachtBuyer Hall of Fame for combining genuine explorer capability with one of the most liveable layouts in her class.
Exterior Design
Maverick is the fourth yacht in Cantiere delle Marche's Flexplorer series, yet she pushes the concept further than the earlier boats. Rather than soften the working-boat roots that define the range, CdM developed a yacht that can carry serious expedition equipment while still offering the outdoor spaces expected of a modern superyacht. At 44.3m (145.3ft), she sits alongside explorer yachts such as Sanlorenzo's 44X-Space, but takes a more practical approach, with cargo handling and long-range capability placed at the heart of the design.
Francesco Paszkowski gave Maverick a clean, purposeful profile centred on a near-vertical bow, long horizontal glazing and uncluttered deck lines. The light grey hull and superstructure are broken up by black detailing and a black boot stripe with twin pinstripes, while a reinforced 22mm ice belt above and below the waterline reflects the yacht's ability to venture well beyond the usual Mediterranean cruising grounds.
The aft deck best explains what makes the Flexplorer concept different. Instead of hiding the working gear, CdM treats it as part of the yacht's design. A custom carbon fibre A-frame crane built by Advanced Mechanical Solutions can lift up to 4,000kg and folds flush into the deck when not required. It handles a custom 9.5m Rivellini tender, an A27 sailing boat and other heavy equipment without relying on enclosed garages or complex launch systems.
That same space changes character once the tenders are in the water. Fold-down bulwarks open out to create a beach area of more than 135sqm (1,450sqft), while the infinity pool built into the transom doubles as storage for deck furniture during passages. Rather than forcing owners to choose between a working deck and a beach club, Maverick delivers both.
Elsewhere, the upper deck continues the yacht's flexible approach. The forward section normally carries the rescue boat and jet skis, but once at anchor it becomes another guest area with sofas and sunpads. Large areas of glazing connect the interior with the sea, while the wide side decks and open aft spaces make it easy to move around the yacht whether she is loading equipment or hosting guests.
Interior Design
Maverick's interior follows the same philosophy as her exterior by favouring practical solutions over unnecessary complexity. Large windows draw natural light into the main saloon, where natural woods, soft fabrics and durable flooring create a calm setting suited to extended time on board rather than short holidays.
One of the most important design decisions is the asymmetrical main deck layout, first seen on Aurelia but developed further here. By widening the saloon to starboard and moving the side deck to port, CdM created a noticeably larger living space while giving the crew a dedicated service route between the galley and the aft deck. Guests enjoy uninterrupted views and more usable floor space, while crew can move through the yacht without crossing the main social areas.
The galley sits open to the main saloon rather than hidden behind bulkheads. A central island forms the heart of the space, so it works equally well for informal meals, preparing food or gathering with family and friends. This more open arrangement reflects the way many owners now use explorer yachts for long periods aboard.
Beyond the guest areas, Maverick includes facilities more often found on larger expedition yachts. A dedicated gym, sauna and diving centre support life away from marinas, while the generous machinery spaces reflect CdM's focus on straightforward maintenance during extended cruising.
Accommodation
Maverick accommodates up to 12 guests in seven cabins spread across three decks, giving owners a degree of flexibility rarely found on a yacht of this size.
The main deck is home to the principal owner's suite, positioned forward for privacy and broad views through the hull glazing. A second owner's suite occupies the upper deck alongside a single guest cabin, allowing the yacht to suit extended family cruising, multiple principals or owners who want separate private accommodation.
Four further guest cabins occupy the lower deck, each with its own en suite bathroom. The layout balances privacy with easy access to the yacht's shared living spaces and outdoor decks.
Accommodation for up to six crew is arranged across three cabins, supporting long-range operation without taking space away from the guest areas.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesel engines producing 1,301hp each at 1,800rpm, Maverick reaches a top speed of 15 knots and cruises comfortably at 12 knots. Her 64,436-litre fuel capacity gives a maximum range of around 6,800 nautical miles at an economical speed of 10 knots, placing her firmly in the long-range explorer category. Zero-speed stabilisers improve comfort both underway and at anchor, while the reinforced hull and 22mm ice belt allow her to operate confidently in higher latitudes where many yachts of similar size would not venture.
Tenders
Maverick was designed around her tenders rather than treating them as equipment to hide away. The expansive aft deck works as a true expedition platform, allowing owners to carry larger and more varied craft than would fit inside a conventional tender garage.
At the heart of the system is a custom carbon fibre A-frame crane developed by Advanced Mechanical Solutions. With a lifting capacity of 4,000kg, it launches and recovers Maverick's custom 9.5m Rivellini tender alongside an A27 sailing boat with ease. The crane folds flush into the deck when not in use, preserving clear deck space without compromising lifting capability.
The upper deck also provides dedicated stowage for the rescue boat and jet skis.
