Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 7.5m beam and a 2.2m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 245 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in mid 2008 with the keel laid under the project name 'Petra'. This was the tenth yacht built on the Heesen 3700 design. Launched in April 2011 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2011.
Exterior Design
Aurelia is a 37.3m (122.4ft) Heesen semi-displacement yacht designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, but it is her extraordinary Gulf Racing-inspired livery that makes her instantly recognisable. Among a sea of white superyachts, Aurelia is impossible to mistake. Her light blue hull, bright orange accent stripe and oversized racing number 10 graphics transform an already striking Heesen into one of the most distinctive yachts of her generation.
The scheme celebrates the owner's passion for motorsport and endurance racing. Rather than appearing as an afterthought, the colours work surprisingly well with Laupman's sleek profile, emphasising the yacht's long, athletic lines and reinforcing the performance credentials beneath. The racing theme extends beyond the yacht itself, with matching graphics applied to her 4.3m (14ft) Castoldi tender and even her watersports equipment.
Beneath the custom finish sits one of Heesen's proven aluminium semi-displacement platforms. The low-profile superstructure, sweeping sheerline and dark glazing create a purposeful silhouette, while the hard chine hull was developed to deliver unusually high speeds for a yacht of this size.
The aft deck centres around a large dining area positioned beneath the protection of the upper deck overhang, with sliding glass doors opening directly into the main saloon. Above, the flybridge provides another substantial social space with dining, a bar, extensive sunbathing areas and retractable biminis that can remain deployed while underway. A distinctive feature is the dedicated staircase connecting the flybridge directly to the foredeck, allowing guests to move between deck areas without returning to the main deck.
The foredeck provides a private retreat with sunpads and seating, while the transom folds down to create a large swim platform at water level. A former tender garage has been converted into a beach club lounge, creating a shaded waterside space with direct access to the sea.
Interior Design
Bannenberg & Rowell created an interior that takes a very different approach from Aurelia's extrovert exterior. While the Gulf Racing-inspired livery celebrates speed and motorsport, the interior is calm, contemporary and deliberately understated.
Large windows run almost the full length of the main deck saloon, drawing natural light deep into the yacht and framing uninterrupted sea views. The layout centres on comfortable social spaces rather than formal separation, with the main saloon arranged around generous seating and conversation areas. Dark accents and carefully selected materials provide contrast against lighter finishes, creating a modern interior that feels relaxed rather than overly decorative.
The connection between inside and outside spaces is particularly strong. Wide glazing, low bulwarks and direct deck access help maintain a constant visual link with the water, while the open-plan arrangement allows the saloon to function equally well for quiet cruising or larger gatherings.
A second lounge on the upper deck provides a more private retreat away from the main social areas. Combined with the extensive outdoor spaces, the arrangement gives guests multiple places to spread out during extended cruising without feeling confined to a single living area.
Accommodation
Aurelia accommodates up to eight guests across four cabins and carries a crew of six.
The full-beam owner's suite takes advantage of the yacht's 7.5m (24.6ft) beam to create the largest private space on board. Positioned away from guest traffic, the suite offers substantially more floor area than would typically be found on a performance yacht capable of 30 knots, demonstrating how effectively Heesen balanced speed with onboard comfort.
Guest accommodation comprises two double cabins and one twin cabin, all finished to the same standard as the owner's suite. The layout suits family cruising particularly well, while also providing flexibility for mixed guest groups.
Crew quarters for six support private or charter operations and allow guest areas to remain separate from day-to-day service activities.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 4000 M90) 16-cylinder 3,700hp engines running at 2100rpm, motor yacht Aurelia is capable of reaching a top speed of 30 knots, and comfortably cruises at 17 knots. With her 32,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 1,900 nautical miles at an economic speed of 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
Amenities
Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
Special Features
Guests can enjoy life at sea in three exterior social areas: the partially sheltered aft cockpit; the vast sundeck with its comfortable sitting area and convivial bar; or can take the sun on the large mattresses located in front of the wheel house.
