The award winning 196'10" motor yacht Kaiser was delivered to her owners in 2011 by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen. The yacht's exteriors have been penned by Donald Starkey, while Bannenberg & Rowell has designed her interiors.
Key Features
- Slipway tender launch system
- Bannenberg & Rowell interior design
- Sun deck spa pool and bar
- 4,000 nautical mile range
Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 35'1" beam and a 11'6" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,092 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2008 with the keel laid under the project name 'Aburas'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
The 60m (196.9ft) Kaiser, built by Abeking & Rasmussen, carries the confident, streamlined profile of a true ocean-going motor yacht. Donald Starkey’s exterior design blends elegance with practicality, its deep blue hull and crisp white superstructure creating a striking contrast that feels both classic and modern. The yacht’s balanced proportions, long foredeck, and purposeful stern all reflect the German shipyard’s precision-driven approach.
A standout feature is her advanced slipway system, allowing the tender to be launched or recovered even while underway. This ingenuity sits neatly within a layout designed for comfort and efficiency. The expansive sun deck is arranged around a forward spa pool, encircled by high rails for child safety and served by a bar shaded beneath a triangular Multiplex awning. Aft, the deck opens into a broad relaxation space that can be shaded with removable awnings and easily reconfigured for sunbathing or dining.
Interior Design
Inside Kaiser, Bannenberg & Rowell created a space with a distinctly Germanic personality. Ovangkol, oak, and rosewood meet lighter beli and zebrano, while decorative niello inlays in doors and furniture add texture and depth.
The stairway at the heart of the yacht features a single bronze balustrade, cut and heated into shape, with walls panelled in inlaid oak and beli wood. Across the interior, pleated linen wall panels framed with nickel studs and chestnut parquet floors in a herringbone pattern reinforce the tactile, handcrafted feel.
The main saloon, dominated by two oversized sofas built after multiple mock-ups to perfect their ergonomics, forms the social hub. Rich colours and bold materials create warmth against the West African hardwood panelling. Forward, a circular dining table seats 12 beneath soft, balanced lighting. Above, the sky lounge shifts tone slightly with a more relaxed space for card games, watching TV, or enjoying a drink at the bar.
Throughout, Bannenberg & Rowell wove subtle references to Jugendstil, the German counterpart of Art Nouveau, most evident in the freestanding washstands and the decorative metalwork. This balance of colour, material, and form earned Kaiser the World Superyacht Award for Best Displacement Motor Yacht (500GT–1299GT) in 2012.
Accommodation
Kaiser accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins. The lower deck cabins can operate individually or merge into two generous full-beam suites, depending on guest needs. Each reflects the yacht’s architectural strength, with niello-detailed cabinetry, freestanding curved washstands, and carefully shaped woodwork.
The owner’s suite is positioned for privacy and open views, designed around light, space, and calm. Tall windows flood the room with natural light, while the absence of excess furniture allows the focus to fall on proportion and texture. Embossed leather panels frame the bed, and the ensuite bathroom features a mother-of-pearl mosaic. A study connects directly to the suite, furnished simply and illuminated by retro-style Ralph Lauren lamps.
Guest cabins share the same design discipline, with six-pointed oak intarsia doors, pleated linen wall panels, and bronze details that tie the spaces together. Kaiser carries up to 16 crew, supported by a full crew mess, commercial laundry, sauna, and a food elevator linking the galley to the upper decks for efficient service throughout the yacht.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3516B) 1,877hp engines, motor yacht Kaiser is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. With her 162,500 gallon fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Amenities
The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort, while underwater lights create a dazzling light display when the sun goes down. Kaiser also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
