The 23.8m motor yacht OCN was delivered to her owners in 2023 by Polish shipyard Sunreef Yachts. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Sunreef Yachts.

Design & Construction

Designed around a catamaran GRP hull and superstructure she features a 12m beam and a 2.2m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 79 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

OCN is an 80 Sunreef Power Eco that has become one of the most recognisable yachts in the range. Her three wind turbines immediately set her apart, rising above the flybridge as a visible reminder that this yacht has been designed to generate renewable energy as well as consume it. They work alongside Sunreef's integrated Solar Skin technology, making OCN a striking example of how alternative energy is beginning to shape modern yacht design.

The catamaran itself retains the clean, contemporary styling that defines the 80 Sunreef Power Eco. Twin hulls support a broad 12m (39.4ft) beam beneath a low superstructure wrapped in dark glazing, creating long horizontal lines that soften the yacht's considerable volume. Like many of Sunreef's latest designs, the emphasis is on open deck space, uninterrupted views and a close connection with the water, while the wide beam delivers excellent stability both underway and at anchor.

One of the cleverest aspects of the design is that much of the yacht's power generation is almost invisible. Ultra-thin photovoltaic cells, measuring less than 1mm thick, are laminated directly into the composite hull sides, superstructure and hardtop. Instead of adding conventional solar panels after construction, the yacht itself becomes the power plant, generating electricity across surfaces that would otherwise simply be part of the structure.

The outdoor spaces make full use of the catamaran's generous beam. A wide bow terrace features a custom Jacuzzi surrounded by sunpads, while the flybridge offers another large social area beneath the solar-panel-lined hardtop. At the stern, fold-down side platforms and a hydraulic swim platform transform the aft cockpit into a spacious beach club, with an integrated garage hidden beneath the cockpit keeping the tender and water toys neatly out of sight.

OCN proves that sustainable technology does not have to dictate how a yacht looks or how owners use it. The solar panels disappear into the structure, while the wind turbines are the only obvious clue that Sunreef are ambitiously chasing renewable energy projects.

Accommodation

OCN offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 4 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

OCN approaches propulsion very differently from a conventional motorcat. Twin 360kW electric motors draw power from a high-density lithium battery bank that is continuously replenished by one of the most advanced renewable energy systems currently fitted to a production yacht.

Sunreef's Solar Skin forms the foundation of that system, harvesting energy throughout the day from photovoltaic cells integrated into the hull, superstructure and hardtop. OCN adds another layer by carrying three wind turbines above the flybridge. Positioned at the highest point of the yacht where airflow is strongest, they continue generating electricity after sunset and during overcast conditions, helping maintain battery charge when solar production naturally falls.

That combination is particularly valuable when the yacht is at anchor. Every yacht has a constant electrical demand from refrigeration, lighting, air conditioning, water makers and other onboard systems, often referred to as the hotel load. Conventional yachts usually meet that demand by running generators for long periods. OCN's mix of solar generation, wind power and battery storage can offset much of this continuous consumption, extending periods of silent operation while reducing fuel use and generator hours.

Sunreef quotes an all-electric cruising range of up to 300 nautical miles under favourable conditions and a top speed of 13 knots. While the headline figures are impressive, OCN's greater significance lies in demonstrating how several renewable technologies can work together as one integrated energy system. Instead of relying on a single solution, she combines solar harvesting, wind generation and battery storage to reduce emissions without changing the way owners enjoy the yacht.
