WATCH: First Solar-Electric Pioneer PY60 Catamaran Nears Launch Ahead of Cannes Debut

Pioneer Yachts has released a new construction update showing significant progress on Pioneer One, the first hull in its PY60 solar-electric catamaran series, as the vessel moves into the final stages of construction ahead of her scheduled launch on July 3.

The latest construction update provides one of the clearest views yet of Pioneer One, showing the 60-foot catamaran nearing completion in Stralsund, Germany, as outfitting, solar panel installation, and final deck work continue ahead of her July launch and scheduled debut at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival.

First PY60 Moves Toward Launch Day

The latest images reveal a project that has progressed well beyond the hull construction stage. The catamaran's distinctive twin-hull platform, expansive superstructure glazing, and broad roof structure are now fully visible, while exterior decking and technical systems continue to be installed.

According to Pioneer Yachts, Pioneer One has been engineered and built entirely in Germany, with development centered on what the company describes as independent living, extended cruising, and long-range operation at sea. The builder confirmed that the yacht will enter the water for the first time on July 3, marking a major step toward sea trials and commissioning.

Designed Around Energy Independence

Unlike many electric motor yacht projects that adapt existing propulsion systems, the PY60 was developed from the outset around a fully integrated solar-electric architecture. The catamaran uses a 48-volt electrical backbone designed to support continuous operation without the complexity associated with higher-voltage systems. Pioneer Yachts says every onboard component is integrated into a single monitored network, providing visibility of energy generation, storage, and consumption throughout the vessel.

According to the company, the design prioritizes reliability and operational simplicity over technical complexity. Hull geometry, weight distribution, and overall proportions were developed specifically to support solar-electric propulsion, reducing resistance and improving energy efficiency during extended cruising.

Practical Living Across Three Decks

Beyond its propulsion system, the PY60 has been conceived as a long-range cruising platform with approximately 250 square meters of living space spread across three levels.

Exterior styling and naval architecture come from Italian studio Cossutti & Ganz, while interiors were developed by Micheletti + Partners. Pioneer Yachts says the layout focuses on practical onboard living, with interior and exterior spaces arranged to create a continuous connection throughout the boat.

Following her scheduled July launch, Pioneer One will undergo testing ahead of her public debut at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, while also serving as a real-world development platform to help refine future PY60 models.
