  • 13,000nm range at 13 knots
  • Twin Hydramarine heavy-lift cranes
  • Certified 21m (68.9ft) helideck
  • DP1 dynamic positioning system

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and superstructure she features a 22.6m beam and a 4.1m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 1,728 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

At 89.39m (293.2ft) in length with a 22.6m (74.1ft) beam and a 4.1m (13.4ft) draft, Sky presents the unmistakable stance of a high-capacity support yacht, engineered for endurance and function. Built entirely in steel by Stocznia Polnocna, her full-displacement hull features a notably high, flared bow that provides exceptional reserve buoyancy and keeps the foredeck dry in heavy seas. The towering superstructure reinforces her offshore character, while her dark hull paint and crisp white topsides lend a modern, purposeful look that complements the exposed helideck and heavy-lift equipment aft.

Her general arrangement reveals a layout optimised for utility and safety, with wide walkways, a large aft working deck, and clearly separated operational zones. The 430m² (4,628.5ft²) clear deck space measuring 13m x 33m (42.6ft x 108.2ft) forms the heart of her capabilities, backed by an 84m² (904ft²) under-deck hold with 2.7m (8.9ft) of vertical clearance for equipment or container storage.

Two Hydramarine cranes serve the main deck: one starboard aft with a 30-tonne safe working load at 10m (32.8ft) reach, and another midships to port rated up to 15 tonnes at 10m (32.8ft). Together, they enable the deployment and recovery of large tenders, containers, or submersibles.

The 21m (68.9ft) helideck sits aft and slightly elevated from the main deck, supported by a structural framework clearly visible in profile. Certified to CA 437 standards, it handles helicopters up to 12.9 tonnes and integrates IMENCO systems for JET A1 and gasoline refuelling. Fuel storage includes 350m³ (92,460 US gallons) of marine gas oil, plus 9,000L (2,378 US gallons) each of JET A1 and tender gasoline.

A retractable azipod and DP1 dynamic positioning system allow Sky to maintain precise station-keeping without anchoring, making her ideal for heliops, submersible deployment, or scientific survey work in environmentally sensitive zones.

Sky also has dedicated exterior areas for an open-air gym, sauna, and jacuzzi on the upper decks.

Interior Design

The interior of Sky follows the logic of a long-range commercial vessel but incorporates upgrades from her successive refits. The general arrangement drawings show a multi-deck configuration with clearly defined working, technical and living areas.

The bridge deck is home to a commercial-spec wheelhouse with wraparound glazing and an adjacent captain’s cabin. The bridge was fully modernised with the Wärtsilä NACOS navigation suite, combining radar, ECDIS, and monitoring systems into one integrated console. The layout offers clear sightlines over the bow and helideck for safe offshore operations.

Below, the superstructure deck houses the chief engineer’s and senior officers’ quarters, a galley and crew mess. The galley, rebuilt in 2018, is designed to serve a large complement efficiently, supported by extensive cold storage rooms added during the 2016–2017 refit. The lower decks accommodate further machinery, refrigeration compressors, and technical stores, including the new sewage treatment plant installed in 2021.

Throughout the interior, the design prioritises practicality and endurance. Surfaces and fittings are hard-wearing yet simple, with clear, functional styling. Crew welfare areas include a recreation room, hospital, laundry, and interior gym, reflecting her dual focus on long-term operation and onboard wellbeing.

Accommodation

Sky accommodates up to 59 people, including her core operational crew and as many as 50 mission or expedition personnel under SPS 50 classification.

The bridge deck hosts the captain and chief officer, each with private cabins. The superstructure deck contains the chief engineer’s cabin, one two-person senior officer cabin, one four-person officer cabin, and three twin officer cabins. The boat deck holds four twin cabins and two four-person crew cabins, while the main deck offers ten twin cabins and two four-person cabins.

A large hospital suite provides medical capacity for extended missions, and communal areas give the crew and mission staff a place to rest between shifts.

This tiered accommodation layout ensures smooth operations for a mixed complement that may include pilots, divers, scientists or submersible technicians, all supported by Sky’s professional marine crew.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Wartsila (12V32) 1,329hp engines, motor yacht Sky is capable of reaching a top speed of 14 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots.
