WATCH: Sanlorenzo Launches Second 74Steel Superyacht Virtuosity With Underwater Aquarium

Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has launched the 74m superyacht Virtuosity, with the vessel entering the water at the company's La Spezia facility on 27 June.

As the second hull in the flagship Sanlorenzo 74Steel series, she is built on the same diesel-electric platform as the first hull - Silver Fox. However, Virtuosity takes the series in a markedly different direction through a fully bespoke design developed over more than four years between the owner, Sanlorenzo and Studio Paolo Ferrari.

While the engineering platform remains unchanged, almost every major living space has been reimagined around the owner's vision, introducing several features not previously seen aboard a superyacht. Exterior styling comes from Zuccon International Project, while Studio Paolo Ferrari was responsible for the yacht's interior architecture, custom furnishings and overall spatial concept.

A Bespoke 74Steel Designed Around the Owner

Rather than developing an entirely new platform, Sanlorenzo has used the proven engineering of its first 74Steel as the foundation for a highly personalized project.

According to the shipyard, discussions with the owner began more than four years ago, including around 18 months of weekly meetings before the formal design process started. The result is a yacht that departs significantly from its sistership despite sharing the same naval architecture and diesel-electric propulsion system.

From the integration of living nature to the transformation of technical volumes into experiential environments, every choice stems from a clear architectural vision. Innovation here is not about excess, but about coherence and balance.”

- Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO of Sanlorenzo.

Among the most striking additions is a mature Ficus Nitida tree positioned at the heart of the main deck. Rather than being added late in construction, the tree formed part of the architectural concept from the outset, with the yacht effectively designed around it. Rising through an oval opening across two decks, it creates a visual connection between the main and bridge decks while natural light enters through dedicated skylights above.

An Underwater Wellness Experience

One of the biggest departures from the first 74Steel is the redesign of the beach club, which Sanlorenzo refers to as the Ocean Resort. Extending more than 230 square meters, the area is approximately 40 percent larger than that of the first hull and stretches from the swim platform deep into the lower deck. Fold-down side terraces widen the space at anchor, while a 28-square-meter glass-bottom swimming pool forms the centerpiece aft.

The area has been designed to serve different purposes throughout the day, functioning as a watersports lounge before converting into an entertainment venue complete with a DJ station during the evening.

Forward of the beach club sits one of the motor yacht's most unusual features - a submerged aquarium integrated directly into the hull. Located within the wellness area alongside the hammam, sauna, massage room and cryotherapy facilities, large underwater glazing allows guests to look directly out beneath the waterline.

Interior Architecture With Nature at Its Core

Throughout the yacht, Studio Paolo Ferrari has adopted a restrained palette of light natural finishes intended to emphasize space, daylight and uninterrupted sightlines.

The main deck revolves around the central tree, while a sculptural helical staircase and elevator create a strong vertical connection between multiple levels. Large expanses of glazing, integrated wine displays and open circulation routes reinforce the architectural approach rather than dividing spaces into traditionally enclosed rooms.

Accommodation includes six guest cabins spread across several decks, alongside two separate owner's suites. The primary owner's apartment occupies around 140 square meters across the owner's deck, incorporating a private terrace with a shallow reflecting pool that extends the living space toward the bow.

Elsewhere, a winter garden on the bridge deck provides an enclosed entertaining space designed to retain a close connection with the surrounding sea, while the sundeck has been reshaped to accommodate an enclosed gym alongside outdoor lounging and dining areas.

Proven Platform, New Possibilities

Although the living spaces differ substantially from the first hull, the yacht retains the same diesel-electric propulsion platform introduced with the original 74Steel. The arrangement allows machinery spaces to be configured more efficiently while reducing onboard noise and vibration during certain operating conditions.

By retaining the underlying engineering, Sanlorenzo has been able to focus development on the yacht's bespoke architecture rather than redesigning the platform itself. The project also marks another collaboration between Sanlorenzo and Fraser, which represented the owner throughout the build.

Busy Build Program Across the Fleet

According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the world's largest yacht database, Sanlorenzo currently has over 100 yachts either in build or on order. Recent activity includes the sale of the first 65m Sanlorenzo 65Steel superyacht, scheduled for delivery in 2028, along with the full reveal of the new Sanlorenzo SL80 Asymmetric flybridge yacht.

The compact addition to the SL range has already secured nine sales, with the first three hulls under construction. Elsewhere, Sanlorenzo's order book continues to be supported by strong demand for established models, including the SL86A and SD132.

With multiple steel superyachts and composite yachts progressing simultaneously, the Italian builder remains one of the industry's busiest shipyards across both custom and series production.
