Delivered in 2014, Ad Lib is a 34.14m motor yacht built by American shipyard Westport Yachts. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Westport Yachts, while Jack Sarin Naval Architects is responsible for her naval architecture.
Key Features
- American-built superyacht by Westport Yachts
- Social flybridge with bar and seating
- Full-beam owners' suite with dual en-suites
- Country kitchen style, large social area
Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.2m beam and a 1.6m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 149 GT (Gross Tonnes).
She was delivered to her owners in January 2014.
Exterior Design
Ad Lib’s 34.1m (112ft) Westport 112 platform makes an interesting trade at the aft end of the main deck, where the usual side passages disappear and the superstructure runs almost the full width of the hull. That gives the saloon considerably more room than the yacht’s fairly traditional profile suggests, while the side decks pick up again farther forward and continue safely to the bow.
The cockpit sits directly outside that full-beam interior, with a broad transom and bathing platform below, so boarding brings guests straight into the main social part of the yacht. From there, the deck circulation changes character around midships, where high bulwarks and proper side passages lead forward to a large foredeck that mixes working space with guest use.
Tender storage is handled on the foredeck, keeping the stern clear for swimming and boarding. The arrangement is quite different from the beach-club layouts seen on newer yachts of this size, but it has its own logic: the tender is kept away from the cockpit and bathing platform, while the long foredeck gives the yacht somewhere substantial to carry equipment without eating into the main outdoor living areas.
Most of the exterior entertaining happens above. The flybridge runs a long way aft beneath a substantial hardtop, with an upper helm, bar, dining and lounge areas gathered together on one level. Isinglass screens can close off much of the space when the weather turns, which gives the deck more useful life outside warm-weather cruising and makes it feel closer to an additional living room than a completely exposed flybridge.
Interior Design
Ad Lib’s interior has the rich, traditional character associated with Westport yachts of this era, with glossy mahogany used heavily through the cabinetry, wall panels and ceiling details. Pale carpets and upholstery stop all that timber becoming too dark, while the large rectangular windows bring in far more daylight than the exterior profile might lead you to expect.
The full-beam aft section pays off immediately in the main saloon, where the extra width allows the lounge and formal dining area to sit comfortably in the same room without feeling squeezed together. An oval dining table seats eight and keeps dinner firmly within the social heart of the yacht, while built-in sideboards provide proper storage for glassware and tableware instead of relying on loose furniture.
Further forward, the country kitchen gives Ad Lib a very different sort of social space. A large central island provides plenty of preparation area and has stools along one side, while a curved banquette and separate table create a proper breakfast and casual dining nook beside the windows. Owners or guests can sit with whoever is cooking, have coffee without setting the formal table, or simply use the room as another place to gather during the day.
There is a lot of practical thinking behind it too, with extensive worktops, large refrigeration, twin sinks, a dishwasher and substantial cabinetry. Combined with the long run of windows, it feels closer to a residential kitchen than a compact yacht galley, which suits a boat intended for longer stays aboard.
The helm continues the traditional woodwork but brings in a more modern layer of electronics, with large multifunction displays grouped around the wheel and good forward visibility through the broad windscreen. Its position beside the galley also keeps the operational end of the main deck compact and leaves the aft half of the yacht largely to guests.
Accommodation
Ad Lib accommodates eight guests in four cabins, with the arrangement split into two distinct parts of the lower deck. The owner’s suite sits amidships at the yacht’s widest point, while two further guest cabins are grouped nearby and a separate double cabin occupies the forward section.
Double doors open into the owner’s suite, which uses the full beam and includes a substantial walk-in wardrobe. The ensuite is unusually generous for a yacht of this length, with a centrally positioned shower accessible from both sides and the bathroom arranged almost as a room in its own right.
The two adjoining guest cabins comprise one double and one twin, each with its own ensuite, giving families or mixed groups a useful combination of berth types. Their position close to the owner’s suite creates a compact private accommodation zone amidships.
The forward double sits apart from the other guest cabins and works almost like a small private annex, with its own ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. That separation could suit older children, another couple or guests staying for longer periods who want a little more independence from the main accommodation area.
Crew accommodation for up to five is kept aft on the lower deck, close to the machinery and service spaces. That helps separate working circulation from the guest cabins and keeps the crew near the operational end of the yacht.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 2000 M91) 2,000hp engines, motor yacht Ad Lib is capable of reaching a top speed of 25 knots, and comfortably cruises at 22 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
Amenities
In addition, a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. Underwater lights will turn plenty of heads when the sun goes down. Ad Lib also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
