Constructed in lightweight aluminum with a fast displacement hull, this Heesen 50m Aluminium FDHF yacht brings high performance, low emissions, and contemporary luxury to the sub-500GT market.
A Next-Generation Hybrid Yacht
Built under yard number YN 20750, Orion is the third unit in Heesen’s 50-meter hybrid series, integrating the efficiency of van Oossanen’s Fast Displacement Hull Form with a hybrid propulsion system. She features twin MTU 12V 2000 M61 engines (IMO Tier III), capable of delivering a top speed of 16.3 knots and a range of 3,750 nautical miles at 12 knots. In hybrid mode at 10 knots, fuel consumption drops to just 45 liters per hour, enabling quiet, low-impact cruising.

Our expertise in lightweight aluminium construction, combined with the efficiency of the Fast Displacement Hull Form and the advanced hybrid propulsion system make ORION an exceptional yacht. "

The shallow 2.15-meter draft of the superyacht further expands her reach, making her equally well suited to island cruising in the Bahamas as she is to longer Mediterranean passages.
Design Collaboration Between Omega and Gatto
Frank Laupman of Omega Architects handled Orion’s exterior styling, which features a strong vertical bow and panoramic floor-to-ceiling glazing. The interior of the yacht, crafted by Cristiano Gatto Design, was tailored closely to the owner’s brief, with more than 37 different materials used throughout to create a rich and textural atmosphere. Materials include high-gloss woods, Italian marble, and custom woven leather.

Cristiano Gatto’s team also provided a curated suite of loose furniture to reflect the owner’s lifestyle, while Heesen’s in-house craftsmen delivered the detailed joinery and finishing expected of a top-tier Dutch yard.

With an interior volume of 499 gross tons, the motor yacht accommodates up to 12 guests in six staterooms, including a main deck owner’s suite and a full-beam VIP cabin. The yacht will be available for select charter bookings through Ocean Independence, marking her entry into the charter market for the 2025 summer season.
A Collaborative Effort
“This yacht perfectly encapsulates our DNA: precise Dutch engineering, hybrid innovation, and dedicated collaboration,” said Heesen CCO Ruud van der Stroom, highlighting the close working relationship between the yard, designers, and the owner’s team.

The delivery of Orion is a moment of great pride for everyone at Heesen."

Peter van der Zanden, Heesen’s General Manager of Design & Development, also emphasized the benefits of the shipyard’s aluminum expertise and hybrid know-how. “Orion is a perfect example of how performance, efficiency, and luxury can be brought together in one yacht,” he said.

Broker Anton Foord of Ocean Independence echoed the sentiment: “This has been a proud project from the beginning. Orion offers her owner and charter guests a refined experience defined by elegant design, modern technology, and superb cruising performance.”
With her delivery now complete, Orion joins the water as a standout example of Heesen’s hybrid innovation, precision engineering, and design craftsmanship.
