Latest Amels 80 Superyacht Completes Technical Launch and Heads to Vlissingen for Outfitting

Damen Yachting has confirmed the technical launch of the fifth Amels 80 superyacht, marking another milestone for the shipyard’s flagship Limited Editions platform.

The 80-meter hull was launched at Damen Yachting’s facility in Galati, Romania, and will now make her way to Vlissingen in the Netherlands. There, she will enter outfitting ahead of a scheduled delivery in 2027.

The launch also represents a technical milestone rather than a ceremonial debut, with the steel and aluminum hull now structurally complete. From Galati, the yacht will be transported to Vlissingen, where interior installation, systems integration, and final detailing will take place. The launch itself took place just before the end of 2025.

This milestone reflects the commitment of our welders, fitters, engineers, and project teams, who bring these superyachts to life with passion and professionalism."

Damen Yachting

Nicholas Schaffers, Project Manager at Damen Yachting, described the launch as a defining moment for the build team. He noted that the project has progressed through every stage, from first steel cut to launch, with close attention to precision and craftsmanship. According to Schaffers, the milestone reflects the work of welders, engineers, fitters, and project staff whose focus remains on accuracy and consistency throughout the construction process.

Design Framework of the Amels 80 Series

The Amels 80 is defined by exterior lines from Espen Øino International, giving the Amels yacht a confident profile with strong proportions and a purposeful stance. Interiors are developed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, with each hull tailored to an owner’s brief within the established framework of the series. Naval architecture is handled in-house by Damen Yachting.

At 80 meters long with a 12.5-meter beam and a gross tonnage of 2,175GT, the platform offers space for up to 14 guests across seven suites, supported by accommodation for 20 crew plus the captain. The layout prioritizes clear separation between guest and crew circulation, with generous deck areas and a strong focus on outdoor living.

Large-Scale Deck Areas

One of the defining features of the Amels 80 is its 200-square-meter sundeck, currently the largest sundeck offered within the Amels portfolio. The area is designed to support multiple uses, from dining and lounging to wellness and entertainment, without crowding.

A private owner’s deck sits forward on the superyacht, providing a secluded area with uninterrupted views and direct access to exterior spaces. At sea level, the three-sided open beach club creates a broad connection to the water, transforming the aft section into a true waterfront lounge. A 6.5-meter swimming pool further reinforces the yacht’s focus on outdoor relaxation and extended time at anchor.

Hybrid Propulsion and Hull Design

The Amels 80 platform is built around a hybrid propulsion system developed by Damen Yachting, paired with an optimized hull form. The setup is designed to reduce fuel consumption, lower noise levels, and support quieter operation at anchor and during low-speed cruising.

According to Damen Yachting Commercial Director Rob Luijendijk, owners increasingly view efficiency and long-term operating costs as central considerations. He stated that the Amels 80’s propulsion package and hull design are intended to deliver measurable fuel savings while supporting reduced environmental impact and stable long-term ownership costs.

Performance figures place the motor yacht’s maximum speed at 16.5 knots, with a transoceanic range of approximately 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. This capability supports extended cruising without sacrificing onboard comfort or deck space.

From Amels 60 to Amels 80

The Amels 80 sits at the top of a Limited Editions lineup that has continued to expand in both scale and capability. According to YachtBuyer Market Watch, the global yacht market database, Amels currently has 9 yachts either in build or on order. Alongside the Amels 80, this includes multiple units of the Amels 60, a 60-meter platform that has played a key role in sustaining demand for the series.

Also designed by Espen Øino, the Amels 60 evolved from the yard’s long-running Amels 180, carrying forward its sharp, architectural profile within a tri-deck layout of approximately 830GT. The model accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins, with quarters for 13 crew, and is structured around extended cruising rather than seasonal use alone.

Like the Amels 80, the Amels 60 is equipped with Damen’s Hybrid by Amels propulsion system, enabling low-speed electric operation and a cruising range of around 4,500 nautical miles. Key features include a fold-out balcony connected to the owner’s suite, a substantial beach club with opening sea terraces, and a forward tender bay that converts into a touch-and-go helipad. Together, the two platforms underline how the Limited Editions strategy has scaled upward while retaining a consistent technical and design foundation.

The fifth Amels 80 technical launch also follows the delivery of the first unit, Pangea, which was handed over in October 2025 after sea trials from Damen Yachting’s Vlissingen facility.

With the latest hull now moving into outfitting, the Amels 80 program continues to progress steadily through its build pipeline toward 2027 delivery. Following the delivery of Pangea and multiple units in build, the series remains a central pillar of Damen Yachting’s Limited Editions strategy.
