Delivered in 2013, Azzam is a 180.65m motor yacht built by German shipyard Lurssen. She features exterior design by Nauta Yachts and interior styling by Christophe Leoni.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 20.8m beam and a 4.5m draft. The yacht is built over 7 decks with an internal volume of 13,136 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in mid 2011 with the keel laid under the project name 'Azzam'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in April 2013 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in November 2013.
Exterior Design
At 180.65m (592.7ft), Azzam is enormous, but that is not really what the eye sees first. Nauta Design stretched the profile into a long, low shape with a very fine bow, a shallow-looking superstructure and deck lines that run almost the full length of the yacht. It is a clever bit of proportion. From some angles, Azzam reads more like a very long fast yacht than a 13,136GT ship.
The bow does a lot of that work. It is long, clean and almost uninterrupted, with very little visual clutter, and the superstructure sits well aft rather than piling volume forward. The aerial view makes this especially clear. There is a huge amount of open foredeck ahead of the main accommodation block, including the helipad, and that length pulls the whole yacht visually forward.
The side profile is even more telling. Seven decks are stacked into the superstructure, but the horizontal glazing and long overhangs stop them reading as separate layers. The decks seem to slide back into one another, which keeps the yacht from looking top-heavy despite her beam of 20.8m (68.2ft).
The stern is broad but not bulky. The aft terraces step down gradually, and the swim platform sits low to the water, giving the back of the yacht a surprisingly clean finish for something of this scale. The photos also show just how hard Azzam runs when underway, with a huge wake behind the waterjet-driven stern and very little of the profile lost to bulky appendages.
Interior Design
Azzam's interior is much more private than her exterior, but the broad outline is known. Christophe Leoni designed the spaces in an Empire-inspired style, with rich woods, mother-of-pearl marquetry and custom furniture carrying through the yacht.
The main saloon is the best-known room on board and the numbers are hard to ignore. It runs for around 29m (95.1ft) and spans roughly 18m (59.1ft) across the yacht, yet there are no supporting pillars breaking up the room. That required major structural work above the ceiling and specially engineered glazing, with the windows reportedly more than 7cm (2.8in) thick.
That absence of columns changes the room completely. Instead of feeling like a very large yacht saloon split into zones, it works as one open space, with broad views out through the full-height glass.
The decorative scheme is much richer than the exterior suggests. Mother-of-pearl was used heavily in the marquetry and furniture, while darker timber and more formal detailing tie the interior back to the owner's land-based residences. It is a very different mood from the lean exterior, but that contrast is part of the yacht.
Accommodation
Azzam accommodates up to 36 guests in 18 cabins, which immediately puts her in a different category from most private superyachts.
The sheer size of the yacht allows guest accommodation to be spread across several decks without pushing cabins into awkward corners or narrowing circulation. With a beam of 20.8m (68.2ft), there is enough width for very large suites and equally generous corridors, service routes and private areas.
Crew accommodation is on a similar scale. Azzam carries up to 80 crew, a number that says quite a lot about how the yacht operates. A vessel this large needs its own internal logistics, and much of the volume that guests never see is given over to service, machinery, storage and crew movement.
Despite that, the guest areas remain deliberately private. Very little detailed information has ever been released about the cabin layouts, which is unusual given how much attention the yacht has attracted since launch.
Performance & Capabilities
Azzam's performance is where the yacht becomes really unusual.
Two gas turbines and two MTU diesels combine to produce around 94,000hp, driving a waterjet system rather than conventional propellers. In sprint mode, Azzam can reach around 34 knots, an extraordinary figure for a yacht measuring 180.65m (592.7ft) and displacing well over 13,000GT.
The drive system also gives her a second personality. In long-range mode, the diesel engines can be used without the gas turbines, allowing Azzam to cruise at around 18 knots over much greater distances and cross the Atlantic without refuelling.
The relatively shallow 4.5m (14.8ft) draft is another important part of the design. For a yacht this long, it is remarkably modest, which makes access to shallower cruising grounds easier than the length alone would suggest.
A lot of work also went into making the speed usable rather than theatrical. Noise and vibration targets were set very high, and one of the more revealing details is that the engineering team tested the main saloon chandelier to make sure it would not rattle underway. It is a small thing, but it tells you how seriously refinement was taken on a yacht capable of more than 30 knots.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. Rest and relaxation can be achieved on board, thanks to a luxury spa. In addition, a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Azzam also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
