Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11m beam and a 3m draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 1,100 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in early 2023. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Project Thunderball is an expedition yacht with a design that fuses sailing yacht elegance with superyacht capability. Designed by Vripack and built by CRN, she carries a strong visual identity shaped by clean lines, a distinctive shear (a continuous sweep from bow to stern) and a silhouette that echoes the spirit of classic sailing vessels. Her navy-painted steel hull, paired with a white aluminium superstructure and bootstripe accents, gives her a crisp, traditional look with a modern edge.

The hull has been engineered with curved bilges and a sharp entry point, creating a sleek, near-frictionless profile through the water. She was intentionally built without a bulbous bow following extensive tank testing, which confirmed that her hull's innate efficiency made it unnecessary. This makes her one of the few large motor yachts optimised to cruise without one.

Spanning five decks, her layout includes a substantial swim platform at the stern, enlarged at the owner’s request to create an easy-access area for watersports and ocean enjoyment. The platform doubles as an extended terrace on the water, enhancing the yacht’s role as a support vessel for the owner’s sailing yacht. A glass-encased winter garden crowns the uppermost deck, blending panoramic views with protection from the elements. A strict design discipline is visible throughout the exterior, especially in the vertical alignment of window mullions, which not only shapes the clean profile but also influences the arrangement of internal volumes.

Interior Design

The interior of Project Thunderball by Nauta Design has been conceived as a modern interpretation of maritime tradition. Blending heritage elements with a contemporary sensibility, the space is designed to support long, relaxed cruising.

A full-height winter garden positioned at the top of the yacht extends the living space into the outdoors, adding a year-round retreat where guests can relax, dine, or enjoy the view, regardless of weather.

Accommodation

Project Thunderball offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 suites comprising an owners cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 15 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

Project Thunderball, a 70-metre superyacht by CRN Yachts, features advanced performance and mechanical capabilities designed for efficient cruising. The vessel's engineering prioritizes energy efficiency, incorporating a peak shaving system to reduce fuel consumption. This technology optimizes the yacht's energy usage through intelligent management of power loads, which is especially beneficial during long voyages.
