Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement fiberglass hull and a GRP superstructure she features a 7.32m beam and a 1.68m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 268 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
Shalimar is a 36m (118ft) Benetti tri-deck motor yacht whose profile combines classic Italian styling with several highly unusual custom features. Built shortly after Azimut's acquisition of Benetti, she has the substantial presence often associated with larger yachts, helped by her 268GT volume, deep bulwarks and high bow. The dark navy hull suits the design particularly well, creating a strong contrast with the white superstructure while highlighting the yacht's long, flowing lines.
Unlike many yachts of her era, Shalimar makes extensive use of her upper levels. The foredeck alone provides a remarkable amount of guest space, with large sunpads extending across the wheelhouse roof and continuing forward towards the bow. A private seating area at the bow creates a quiet escape from the main social decks, while the elevated position provides excellent views underway.
The sundeck arrangement is what truly sets the yacht apart. Rather than a conventional open flybridge, Shalimar features a custom enclosed skylounge beneath an observation deck. This configuration is rarely seen on a raised-pilothouse yacht of this size and creates a far more versatile upper-deck experience. Forward of the skylounge is a protected sunning area with a jacuzzi, while the deck above incorporates guest seating, sun lounging space and an upper helm station with exceptional visibility in every direction. According to the owner, this observation deck became a favourite place to spend time aboard.
The aft deck centres around a removable alfresco dining table for six to eight guests, while a folding transom section helps connect guests on deck with those enjoying the water below. When the tender is launched, the tender deck transforms into a surprisingly large entertaining area capable of hosting 10 to 12 guests comfortably.
Interior Design
Shalimar's interior blends classic Benetti craftsmanship with updates introduced during a major refit programme completed between 2019 and 2021. The result is a yacht that retains the warmth and character of a traditional yacht interior while benefiting from modern entertainment systems and refreshed finishes.
The main saloon is a particularly welcoming space. Large horizontal windows run almost the full length of the room, bringing in excellent natural light and giving guests uninterrupted views outside. During the refit, the woodwork, headliners and carpets were refreshed, while every saloon window was removed, resealed and reframed. These improvements have helped the space retain a fresh appearance despite the yacht's age.
The lounge area is arranged around a large L-shaped sofa and comfortable armchairs, creating a relaxed atmosphere that feels more residential than formal. Opposite sits a substantial wet bar equipped with refrigeration, ice-making facilities and storage. This bar serves not only the saloon and dining area but also the aft deck, making it a practical feature for entertaining.
Forward, the formal dining area is surrounded by dedicated cabinetry for china, glassware and table settings, reflecting the yacht's charter heritage and emphasis on service. The adjacent galley is notably large and includes extensive refrigeration, multiple ovens and a practical workflow that remains highly functional today.
The custom skylounge is one of the yacht's most memorable interior spaces. Wrapped in glass and positioned high above the water, it provides panoramic views rarely found aboard a 36m yacht. A fully equipped bar, multiple seating areas and direct access to the surrounding decks make it an excellent retreat during longer cruises.
Accommodation
Shalimar accommodates up to 10 guests across five staterooms and carries up to five crew.
The owner's suite occupies the forward section of the main deck and benefits from a layout that remains highly desirable today. A king-size bed sits at the centre of the room, while a large walk-in wardrobe, vanity desk and comfortable seating area create the feel of a private apartment rather than a conventional yacht cabin. Large forward windows and a long horizontal hull-side window bring in plenty of daylight and provide excellent views.
The ensuite bathroom is particularly impressive. A bathtub, twin vanities, bidet and generous floor space create a level of comfort often missing from modern yachts that prioritise additional accommodation over owner space.
Four guest cabins occupy the lower deck. The aft VIP suite is arranged around an athwartships king-size berth and benefits from excellent storage and a spacious ensuite bathroom. A further double cabin and two twin cabins complete the accommodation, giving the yacht a layout that works particularly well for families and charter guests. The twin cabins are especially useful for children, which helped make the yacht a successful charter platform.
Crew accommodation is positioned separately and includes a captain's cabin, crew mess, laundry facilities and dedicated service areas.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (C-32B) 2,400hp engines, motor yacht Shalimar is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
