Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.92m beam and a 2.29m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 457 GT (Gross Tonnes).

She was delivered to her owners in January 1995.

Exterior Design

Anna J’s exterior design comes from Richard Hein and reflects the fast, low-profile styling that defined large performance yachts of the 1990s. Built entirely in aluminium by Oceanco, the 49.3m (161.7ft) yacht combines long sweeping deck lines with a shallow 1.7m (5.6ft) draft and a relatively light displacement hull, giving her a sleek appearance underway and helping disguise the yacht’s substantial internal volume.

The profile is defined by elongated dark glazing bands that run almost continuously across the superstructure, visually lowering the yacht while reinforcing its streamlined shape. The sharply tapered bow, flowing sheerline and rounded deck overhangs give the yacht a distinctly Mediterranean feel, which suited her original brief as a fast island-hopping yacht for the Aegean.

Outdoor living forms a major part of Anna J’s design. Rather than dedicating large sections of the yacht to enclosed interior lounges, the arrangement prioritises open-air guest spaces. The aft bridge deck serves as the primary alfresco dining area, positioned beneath the overhang of the sundeck for shade and privacy while at anchor or in port.

Above, the sundeck was designed as a full-day social space and includes a circular jacuzzi, large sunpad, built-in barbecue, bar and additional dining area. The deck also incorporates a secondary helm station forward, allowing the owner to operate the yacht while remaining connected to guests. Wide side decks on both the main and bridge levels provide sheltered walking routes and extra places to sit while cruising.

The aft deck arrangement also reflects the yacht’s practical Mediterranean brief. When stern-to in a marina, the space functions primarily as a boarding area with tenders positioned to port and starboard and a central walkway leading directly into the saloon. At anchor, once the tenders are launched, the area transforms into a large watersports and swimming zone connected to the integral swim platform by twin staircases.

Following a major refit overseen by Van Dorrestejn Design and Dutch shipbuilders, Anna J received a full repaint and a 4m (13.1ft) stern extension, which further balanced the yacht’s proportions and modernised her appearance without losing the original profile. The yacht also received updated deck machinery and new Castoldi Jet tenders as part of the rebuild programme.

Interior Design

Anna J’s interior was created by The A Group and later refreshed during her extensive Dutch refit, giving the yacht a cleaner and more contemporary atmosphere while retaining the warm detailing of the original layout. The design uses soft neutral tones, limed oak detailing, textured wall panels and carefully integrated lighting to create a calm and understated feel throughout the guest spaces.

The main saloon is arranged around two large lounge areas divided by a central entertainment cabinet with a concealed television lift system. Large windows on either side bring natural light deep into the room, while the broad beam aft section creates a more open social space beyond the engine room air intake structures positioned amidships.

Forward, the formal dining room uses silk-lined wall panels, mirrored cabinetry and a cracked-glass dining table to create a more intimate setting. Service areas were designed carefully around guest privacy, with a dedicated pantry linked directly to the dining room and a lower-deck galley connected via dumb waiter. The galley itself includes a monitoring camera system for discreet service during meals.

The upper saloon takes a very different approach from most yachts of this size. Instead of large panoramic windows, the room was conceived as a private retreat with limited glazing and softer lighting. During the day it acts as an extension of the aft bridge deck with a permanent bar and cool lounge space, while in the evening it becomes a quieter room for conversation and games away from the main guest areas.

Accommodation

Anna J accommodates up to 12 guests across six cabins arranged over three decks, giving the yacht an unusually flexible layout for a vessel of her era. The configuration includes a master suite, two VIP suites, one double cabin and two twin cabins, while accommodation for up to 10 crew supports full guest service onboard.

The owner’s suite sits forward on the main deck and is entered through a teak-and-holly-lined passageway leading from the central lobby. Inside, the cabin combines limed oak detailing with silk fabrics, marble-topped bedside tables, a writing desk and dressing table. An extensive dressing room sits behind the television cabinetry, while the ensuite bathroom includes twin basins in grey marble and a whirlpool bath.

Guest accommodation on the lower deck centres around a flexible VIP suite aft of the guest foyer. This area includes its own lounge and twin bathrooms and can convert into two separate cabins by closing sliding partitions and transforming the lounge seating into an additional berth arrangement.

Two twin cabins with ensuite bathrooms complete the lower-deck guest accommodation, while an additional ensuite guest cabin sits between the bridge and upper saloon on the bridge deck. Though smaller than the other cabins, it benefits from elevated views and strong natural light.

Crew accommodation is divided between the forward lower deck and cabins aft of the engine room. The captain’s cabin sits directly abaft the wheelhouse in the traditional raised bridge position, while additional crew spaces include a comprehensive laundry and service areas integrated around the galley and operational zones.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V396 TE94) 3,045hp engines, motor yacht Anna J is capable of reaching a top speed of 26 knots, and comfortably cruises at 20 knots. With her 51,470 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
