Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement wood hull and superstructure she features a 7.65m beam and a 2.1m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 290 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in July 2015 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.

Exterior Design

Aquila is a 36.5m (119.8ft) motor yacht built by Mengi Yay with naval architecture and exterior styling by Ginton Naval Architects. Constructed entirely from wood, with an epoxy wood hull, wooden superstructure and teak decks, she belongs to a small group of modern yachts that still showcase traditional wooden yacht building on a substantial scale.

Her profile has a sharp, aggressive look, with a long foredeck, low superstructure and dark glazing that runs through the profile like a visor. The design earned comparisons to a shark when first launched, and that impression remains today. The 2024 refit introduced a complete hull repaint, replacing the original metallic gold finish with a softer grey tone that suits the yacht's lines particularly well.

Outdoor living centres around a generous sundeck that provides a good amount of usable space for a yacht of this size. The broad 7.65m (25.1ft) beam helps create excellent deck volume throughout, while the long foredeck and uncluttered upper areas give guests plenty of room to spread out during a cruise.

Interior Design

Aquila's interior was completely transformed during a nine-month refit completed in 2024. What began as a relatively modest refresh evolved into a far more ambitious project, resulting in a warm and inviting interior designed by Ibrahim Konya.

The previous décor relied on darker woods, black leather and metallic detailing. In its place is a much lighter scheme built around pale timber finishes, soft fabrics and carefully chosen nautical references. The result feels brighter, more relaxed and far better suited to extended cruising.

The main saloon is a particularly successful space. Pale oak flooring, light timber panelling and large windows create a bright atmosphere throughout the room, while mirrored ceiling panels reflect light and views back into the interior. Large curved sofas run along both sides of the saloon, creating a lovely lounge area with plenty of seating for owners and guests. Forward, the dining area remains connected to the main lounge, helping the whole deck feel open and welcoming.

The upper deck lounge has its own character. Blue-and-white striped upholstery gives the room a distinctly nautical feel without becoming overly themed, while warm timber finishes and concealed lighting make it a comfortable place to spend time away from the main entertaining spaces. Following the refit, the room also functions as a games room and media lounge.

The investment went well beyond furniture and finishes. New custom furniture was commissioned throughout the yacht, widescreen televisions were added to the main and upper deck hallways, and major upgrades were carried out to the yacht's engineering and electrical systems. Together, these changes have given Aquila a much newer feel than her 2015 launch date might suggest.

Accommodation

Aquila accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins and carries a crew of five in three crew cabins.

The owner's suite occupies a prime position on the main deck and benefits from the yacht's full 7.65m (25.1ft) beam. This creates a very spacious cabin for a yacht of this size, with excellent separation from the guest accommodation below. The softer materials and warmer colour palette introduced during the refit have greatly improved the atmosphere of the space.

Guest accommodation comprises two VIP cabins, one double cabin and one twin cabin. This arrangement provides good flexibility for families, couples or charter guests, while the consistent interior styling ensures the guest cabins feel every bit as considered as the owner's suite.

Crew accommodation consists of a captain's cabin and two twin bunk cabins, allowing a crew of five to operate the yacht efficiently while maintaining privacy between guest and crew areas.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C32) 1,925hp engines, motor yacht Aquila is capable of reaching a top speed of 21 knots, and comfortably cruises at 17 knots.
