Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10.2m beam and a 3.3m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 838 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in early 2009 with the keel laid under the project name 'Columbus 177'. Launched in June 2011 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in November 2011.

Exterior Design

Armada is a 53.7m (176.3ft) Columbus 177 built by Columbus Yachts, the superyacht division of Palumbo Group. Delivered in 2011 and refreshed with a major survey completed in 2021, she holds a special place in the shipyard's history as the very first yacht built under the Columbus brand and the first Columbus yacht to receive Green Plus class notation. More than a decade later, she remains an important reference point for the yard's evolution into one of Italy's leading superyacht builders.

Penned by Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec, Armada combines explorer-like volume with elegant Mediterranean styling. Her steel hull and aluminium superstructure create a substantial profile, while the silver-grey hull, white superstructure and red boot stripe add a touch of sporting character. Large, dark glazing bands soften the yacht's scale, while the distinctive semi-circular bridge deck windows give the profile its own identity.

At 838GT and with a beam of 10.2m (33.5ft), Armada offers the sort of volume often associated with significantly larger yachts. The broad decks are a direct result of the yacht's generous proportions, creating excellent outdoor spaces across all levels. The sundeck is particularly impressive, with a Jacuzzi, sunbathing areas and plenty of room for guests to spread out. From the imagery and layout, this deck feels more like a private terrace than a traditional sundeck.

The bridge deck aft functions as a second social hub, connected directly to the skylounge and large enough for dining, lounging or evening entertaining. Below, the main deck aft flows naturally into the saloon through large glass doors, creating a good connection between indoor and outdoor living.

Practical cruising considerations were clearly part of the original brief. A large garage houses a 6.5m (21.3ft) Castoldi jet tender alongside two Yamaha WaveRunners, while the yacht also carries a helipad, a feature that remains unusual in this size category. Fin stabilisers improve comfort at sea, and ABS commercial-class construction reflects the yacht's serious engineering credentials.

Interior Design

Tommaso Spadolini created an interior that feels elegant and welcoming rather than heavily styled. High-quality Italian materials feature throughout, with marble, wood, leather and stainless steel carefully balanced to create a warm and contemporary atmosphere.

The main saloon takes full advantage of Armada's substantial beam and volume. Large windows draw in excellent natural light, while white sofas, dark timber finishes and carefully placed furniture create distinct areas for conversation, relaxation and formal entertaining. The space feels open and uncluttered, helped by the yacht's impressive interior volume of approximately 350m² (3,767ft²).

One of Armada's strongest interior spaces is the skylounge. Designed as a dedicated entertainment area, it incorporates a bar, games table, comfortable lounge seating and a large cinema screen that descends from the ceiling when required. Large glass doors open directly onto the bridge deck aft, allowing the entire area to function as one large social space.

Throughout the yacht, details such as stitched leather finishes, textured cabinet panels and bespoke Venetian blinds demonstrate the quality of the craftsmanship.

Accommodation

Armada accommodates up to 12 guests across six cabins, supported by accommodation for up to 13 crew in seven crew cabins.

The owner's suite occupies a prime position on the main deck and spans the full beam of the yacht. This impressive private apartment includes a dedicated office and library area, a private balcony and separate his-and-hers bathrooms finished in white Carrara marble. Jacuzzi baths add another layer of comfort, while large windows provide good natural light and sea views.

A VIP suite is located on the bridge deck, offering a level of privacy rarely found outside the owner's accommodation. Full-height windows and a spacious en suite bathroom give the cabin an airy, luxurious feel, making it an excellent option for guests who prefer separation from the lower-deck accommodation.

Four additional guest cabins sit on the lower deck, comprising two doubles and two twins. While smaller than the owner's suite and VIP cabin, they benefit from the yacht's generous beam and are fitted to the same high standard, with well-sized bathrooms, quality materials and good natural light through large portholes.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 4000 M60) 16-cylinder 2,360hp engines running at 1800rpm, motor yacht Armada is capable of reaching a top speed of 18 knots, and comfortably cruises at 16 knots. With her 119,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,000 nautical miles at an economic speed of 12 knots.
