The keel-laying ceremony took place at the Palumbo Superyachts facility in Savona, marking the latest phase in the shipyard’s growing Crossover line.
Built on speculation, the in-house project reflects Columbus Yachts' growing confidence in the segment following the launch of its 42-meter model and the sale of a 47-meter unit now under construction.
A Proven Platform, Reimagined
The Crossover 48 builds on the same naval architecture that underpins the earlier models in the series, with exterior design and engineering once again handled by Sergio Cutolo’s Hydro Tec studio. The four-deck explorer yacht features a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, measuring 8.6 meters across the beam with a draft of 2.75 meters. The displacement hull has a bulbous bow and flat stern sections to improve stability, fuel efficiency, and comfort during long passages.

This new model introduces subtle refinements to the formula established by its predecessors. The original Columbus Crossover 42, delivered in 2023, prioritized compact exploration with fold-down bulwarks and a hydraulically accessed beach club, while the Columbus Crossover 47, currently under construction, expanded the volume slightly to accommodate a three-ton tender or jacuzzi in its convertible stern area. The Crossover 48 continues that evolution with a reworked aft deck that can either stow a large tender via recessed crane or convert into a waterside lounge and pool area.

While all three models share similar long-range capability - estimated at around 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots - the 48-meter variant is expected to be powered by twin 1,800 hp Caterpillar engines, an increase from the smaller engines found on the earlier builds.
Muscular Explorer Lines with an Ocean-Going Core
Visually, the Crossover 48 stays true to the line’s muscular, explorer-style profile, with bold lines, a sculpted bow, and strong horizontal proportions. This identity supports the dual role as a serious oceangoing motor yacht and a luxurious home at sea. With versatility at its core, the design prioritizes functional deck spaces that can be adapted to a range of cruising styles.

The aft cockpit exemplifies this, functioning either as a launchpad for water toys or as a large social area. The layout of the yacht supports extended outdoor living without sacrificing operational efficiency or stowage flexibility.
Six-Cabin Layout with Panoramic Owner Suite
Accommodation on board the superyacht is provided for up to 12 guests across six staterooms. The lower deck houses four guest cabins, while the main deck features a full-beam VIP suite. The owner’s stateroom is positioned on the upper deck, offering increased privacy and panoramic views, a layout choice that reinforces the vessel’s appeal for long stays and extended cruising.
Interior layout details have yet to be fully revealed, but the shipyard emphasizes a focus on creating welcoming, multipurpose spaces that support both relaxation and extended travel.
Strategic In-House Build
Built entirely on-spec, the Crossover 48 is part of Columbus Yachts’ broader strategy to meet growing market demand without waiting for a buyer to initiate construction. According to YachtBuyer Market Watch & Intelligence, the industry's largest yacht database, Columbus Yachts now has 5 yachts in their order book.

More details about the Crossover 48 will be released as the build advances. For now, it stands as a clear statement of intent from Columbus Yachts: refined design, proven engineering, and a flexible onboard lifestyle tailored to long-distance cruising.
