Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and a carbon fibre superstructure she features a 10.8m beam and a 4.5m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Launched in July 2025 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.
Exterior Design
Simena’s 62m (203ft) form draws from a deep-rooted love of classic sailing yachts, blended with the strength and presence of modern construction. The exterior, penned by Tanju Kalaycıoğlu of Taka Yacht Design, is clearly inspired by the clipper era, with a distinctive bowsprit and trail board shaping her traditional bow. Her steel hull supports one of the largest carbon–epoxy composite superstructures ever fitted to a yacht of this type, balancing lightness and resilience in equal measure.
The decks are laid in ethically sourced Myanmar teak, with sipo mahogany used for the exterior joinery to preserve the warmth of a bygone age. Subtle modern touches include pop-up deck lighting, underwater LEDs, and a retractable movie screen at the aft. The main deck is arranged to entertain, featuring a large central Jacuzzi flanked by deep-cushioned sofas, a 14-person convertible dining table, a U-shaped lounge, and a full wet bar station.
Aft, a carbon swimming ladder and fully retractable gangway make water access smooth, while the custom tender crane located on the foredeck handles a 7.5m carbon-composite limousine tender and a crew/rescue tender, both Yanmar-powered. The expansive foredeck doubles as a private lounge area with sofas and a coffee table set in front of the wheelhouse, covering 60m² and offering potential as a day lounge or evening party space.
The flybridge is accessed by a sliding glass companionway and fitted with twin helm stations to port and starboard. A sliding sunroof provides visibility to the rig above, while a relaxed lounge sofa, coffee table, and large aft sunpad invite all-day use. From every angle, Simena’s deck spaces support both active cruising and unhurried downtime.
Interior Design
The interior, crafted by Design Unlimited, brings together references to the golden era of yachting with soft-edged contemporary styling. Walnut panelling sets the tone, layered with tonal leathers, woven metals, and antiqued brass fittings. The result is a space that feels calm, tactile, and quietly luxurious.
A central staircase forms a sculptural core to the layout, dressed in fluted brass pillars, tinted mirrors, and custom feature lighting inspired by the flow of Mediterranean currents. This connects the interior vertically, offering a graceful route through the yacht’s private and social spaces.
The main saloon opens via electric sliding doors on either side of the aft deck. Inside, a combination of L-shaped sofas, ottomans, and coffee tables creates a generous lounge, while the formal dining area includes an upholstered bench and dining chairs for 12. The palette is light and considered, with marble, brass, and leather continuing throughout the guest spaces.
A clean and practical galley sits forward, laid out in a double U-shape with premium Miele appliances and expanded freezer storage for extended trips. Hidden features such as automatic curtains, TV lifts in the saloon and master suite, USB and wireless charging points, and discreet lighting controls provide all the expected functionality without disturbing the yacht’s classic charm.
Interior construction uses marine-grade materials throughout, from moisture-resistant hardwoods and flame-retardant furnishings to honeycomb-core panels and sound-insulated structures. Marble-lined bathrooms, genuine leather headboards, and hand-finished woodwork complete the picture of a refined yet robust interior.
Accommodation
Simena accommodates 12 guests and up to 9 crew, with thoughtful separation between private, social, and service areas.
The full-beam owner’s suite is forward on the main deck, with its own lounge, dressing room, and a marble-lined ensuite featuring a private hot tub. Behind the bed, illuminated metal screens encased in glass form a soft visual divide, while leather-framed furniture adds another layer of detail. It’s a calm, luxurious space designed for long stays aboard.
Three double guest cabins provide generous wardrobes, vanities, sofas, and bathrooms with walk-in showers, while two twin cabins include ensuites and pullman options. The soft geometry seen throughout the yacht is especially present here, with smooth transitions, wide handrails, and ample storage contributing to guest comfort.
Crew spaces are efficiently arranged. A captain’s cabin and three twin bunk cabins are set aft, each with private bathrooms and separate showers. There’s also a crew mess, dry storage, a well-equipped laundry area with additional freezer capacity, and direct access to the galley and technical spaces. Two further twin bunk cabins can be added forward, sharing a bathroom to increase crew capacity without compromising privacy or operational flow.
Performance & Capabilities
Simena is built as a high-performance cruising ketch, capable of covering long distances in complete comfort. The rig, developed under the guidance of naval engineer Chris Mitchell, includes aluminium masts and stainless rod rigging, supported by a suite of premium sailing hardware. Her sail plan comprises:
-
Main sail: 470m² (5,059 sq ft)
-
Mizzen sail: 249m² (2,680 sq ft) with carbon battens
-
Genoa: 597m² (6,428 sq ft)
-
Stay sail: 356m² (3,832 sq ft)
-
Storm jib: 143m² (1,539 sq ft)
Captive winches and furlers come from Bamar, with blocks and drum winches by Antal, rods by BSI, and pistons and cylinders by OMS. Sails are Doyle Stratis 11000CT, built for durability. Together, this setup enables both fully manual sailing and automated systems to support minimal-crew handling.
Her hybrid propulsion architecture centres around a parallel drive system with a single 882kW MAN diesel engine and a 220kW electric motor, operating through a Servogear Ecoflow CP propeller. Manoeuvrability is enhanced by a 120kW tunnel bow thruster and 100kW stern thruster. Power is supplied by three diesel generators, with an advanced monitoring and control system built to fail-safe principles and layered with redundancy.
Simena runs in six propulsion modes:
-
Diesel Only: conventional engine drive
-
Electric Only: silent cruising under electric motor
-
Diesel + PTO: propulsion with the engine, power supplied by the electric motor
-
PTO Only: engine drives electric supply, no propulsion
-
Hydro Generator Mode: sails drive the propeller to regenerate electric power
-
Pure Sailing Mode: all engines off, feathered propeller for drag-free performance
Her cruising speed is 11 knots, with a top speed of 14.5 knots under diesel and 15 knots with electric boost. Silent operation is possible up to 6 knots under electric power alone. At cruise, she offers a transoceanic range of 4,000 nautical miles.
This setup delivers versatility, efficiency, and a notably quiet ride under sail or power, setting Simena apart as a modern ketch built for serious exploration without sacrificing tradition.
