47m Feadship Superyacht Halcyon Returns Following Extensive 14-Month Rebuild

Feadship has completed a major rebuild of the 47m motor yacht Halcyon, returning the yacht to the water after one of the most comprehensive refit projects undertaken by Feadship Refit & Services in recent years.

Originally launched in 2001 as Northern Light, the steel-and-aluminum yacht arrived at Feadship's Kaag facility in May 2025 for what was initially planned as a substantial refit. As work progressed, however, the scope expanded significantly, with the project ultimately developing into what the yard describes as something closer to a modified new build. Redelivery is scheduled for July 2026.

25 Years Later: A Reimagined Exterior for a Feadship Classic

Among the most visible changes is a redesigned stern arrangement, introducing a new staircase linking the main deck directly to the swim platform. The yacht has also received a complete repaint of both hull and superstructure, giving the 25-year-old vessel a noticeably refreshed appearance.

Additional exterior updates included modifications to the mast, replacement teak decking across much of the yacht, and the refurbishment or renewal of numerous exterior components. The underwater hull was also stripped back through sandblasting before receiving a completely renewed coating system.

What started as a refit became something much closer to a modified new build. The result is a classic Feadship, renewed and ready for years of successful cruising."

Designed by Studio De Voogt, Halcyon retains the proportions and character of the original yacht while incorporating features and refinements developed during the extensive modernization program.

Bringing Core Systems Up to Date

Much of the work focused on infrastructure hidden from view. According to Feadship, advances in technology, connectivity, comfort, and operational efficiency over the past quarter-century made a deeper upgrade necessary. The bridge was fully modernized with new navigation and operational equipment, accompanied by associated interior modifications. Electrical systems throughout the yacht were inspected and upgraded, while new alarm, monitoring, and power management systems were installed.

The climate control network was also completely replaced. New chillers, fresh-air handling units, and fan coil systems were fitted throughout the motor yacht as part of a comprehensive overhaul of onboard environmental systems.

Preserving Heritage, Upgrading Performance

Work extended throughout both the guest and crew areas, with cabins refurbished, marble surfaces restored, new blinds installed, and interior finishes renewed across the yacht. Rather than reimagining the accommodation entirely, the project focused on preserving Halcyon's original character while updating spaces that had become dated after more than two decades of service.

The most substantial changes took place behind the scenes. Halcyon underwent a near complete mechanical and technical renewal, including overhauls of the main engines and gearboxes, the installation of two new generators, and significant upgrades to systems covering freshwater production, fuel management, sewage treatment, ventilation, heating, and freshwater distribution.

Associated piping, cabling, tankage, and supporting infrastructure were also renewed throughout the yacht, while the steering system, propeller shafts, bow thruster, rudders, cold storage facilities, and diving equipment all received attention. Commenting on the project, Captain Joe Gallegos said the scope expanded considerably after work began, transforming what was initially planned as a major refit into something much closer to a modified new build.

Major Projects Progress Across the Netherlands

The completion of Halcyon comes during a particularly active period for the Dutch builder. Earlier this month, Feadship launched the 89m Milky Way (Project 828), while the 80m Thalassa (Project 826) has been spotted navigating Dutch waterways ahead of sea trials. Progress is also continuing on the 101.2m Destiny (Project 1014), which recently entered North Sea sea trials following her launch earlier this year.

According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the world's largest yacht database, Feadship currently has 17 yachts on order. While those projects represent the next generation of custom superyachts, Halcyon demonstrates the continued value of major rebuild programs, extending the lifespan of established yachts while bringing them closer to modern standards of comfort, efficiency, and onboard technology.
