Breaking News: Feadship’s 119m Superyacht BREAKTHROUGH Sold Ahead of 2025 Monaco Yacht Show

Feadship’s flagship build, the 119m (390ft) superyacht BREAKTHROUGH, has been sold. Delivered in May 2025, she was observed going into International waters on 12 September, leading to affirmation of previous speculative rumours.

Not only the largest yacht ever constructed by Feadship, superyacht BREAKTHROUGH is also the first yacht in the world to integrate a fully operational hydrogen fuel cell system.

Making history in many ways with the title of the largest yacht delivered in the Netherlands, BREAKTHROUGH will soon be making her way onto the global yacht charter market. While further details remain unconfirmed, industry sources have indicated links to Canadian entrepreneur Patrick Dovigi to the acquisition of Feadship superyacht BREAKTHROUGH.

A former minor-league hockey goaltender drafted in the 1997 NHL draft, Dovigi went on to found GFL Environmental in 2007, building the company into one of North America’s largest waste management firms. Following a 2018 merger with Waste Industries, his personal fortune grew substantially, with estimates placing his net worth in the billionaire bracket.

A Record-Breaking Build

Boasting a gross tonnage of 7,247 GT, BREAKTHROUGH ranks 29th in the YachtBuyer YB100 list of the world’s biggest yachts by tonnage and is the third-longest ever to schedule an appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show. Naval architecture is by De Voogt, with interior and exterior design by RWD, whose brief was to balance scale with sleekness.

Exteriors of superyacht BREAKTHROUGH are defined by a reverse bow, deep navy hull, and long sheerline, while 14 balconies, seven fold-down platforms, and five shell doors connect guests onboard with the sea from every level.

Among her standout lifestyle amenities are a dramatic 8.2-metre infinity pool with glass floor and contraflow system, a semi-submerged Nemo Lounge for below-water views, and a vast sundeck with helipad, shaded dining, and jacuzzi.

Images of her interiors remain shrouded in mystery, though reports claim the yacht has been styled as a “townhouse by the sea”, blending limed oak, rattan, eucalyptus, pale marble, and soft leathers to create a calm, coastal feel.

A central atrium staircase is said to spiral around a glass elevator and connect light-filled decks with floor-to-ceiling windows. Facilities include a cinema, library, spa, gym, massage room, and private sea-view dining.

“Successfully closing the in-house deal on the RWD designed 119m Feadship BREAKTHROUGH, the world’s most advanced superyacht, is a milestone for Edmiston and the industry at large.”

Innovation at the Core

What sets motor yacht BREAKTHROUGH apart is not only her scale, but her pioneering energy systems. She is the world’s first superyacht to operate with a hydrogen fuel cell system, developed in partnership with Lloyd’s Register and Feadship’s in-house innovation team.

At her centre is a cryogenic hydrogen tank holding 92 cubic metres of liquid hydrogen in a double-walled chamber. This fuel powers 16 hydrogen fuel cell modules, which generate electricity silently and cleanly, producing nothing but water as a byproduct.

The system covers all hotel loads onboard, from air conditioning and lighting to kitchen and entertainment systems, and allows for zero-emission cruising at up to 10 knots. At anchor, she can remain emission-free for as long as a week.

For extended passages, the superyacht BREAKTHROUGH is equipped with MTU generators capable of burning Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and methanol, giving her multiple low-carbon alternatives.

The methanol can also be reformed into hydrogen onboard, further enhancing operational flexibility. Combined with her twin ABB Azipods, the result is a propulsion setup that enables a top speed of 17 knots and a range of 6,500 nautical miles at 14 knots.

This multi-layered approach to clean energy places BREAKTHROUGH at the very forefront of sustainable superyacht design and sets a template for future builds across the sector.

Monaco Yacht Show Debut

The 2025 Monaco Yacht Show is set to provide the first public showcase of BREAKTHROUGH, where she will be the largest yacht in attendance and the third-largest ever to appear at the event.

Only 123m (404ft) superyacht GOLDEN ODYSSEY and 122m (400ft) motor yacht KISMET have surpassed her in length on the Monaco docks, underscoring the scale of her arrival.

With her combination of record-breaking dimensions and ground-breaking energy systems, BREAKTHROUGH is expected to be the undisputed highlight of this year’s show.

Her presence not only cements Feadship’s position at the pinnacle of large yacht construction but also signals a bold shift toward the next generation of sustainable superyachts, something that Monaco is renowned for advocating.

Living on Board

Despite her vast scale as one of the world's biggest yachts, superyacht BREAKTHROUGH has been designed with intimacy and family life in mind. She can accommodate up to 30 guests across 15 cabins, supported by a crew of 44 housed in 25 cabins with discreet service routes to preserve guest privacy.

On the main deck, eight cabins can reportedly be reconfigured into four VIP suites, allowing layouts to adapt depending on the guest profile. The owner’s quarters span an entire private deck, comprising two bedrooms, dual bathrooms, dressing rooms, a gym, two studies with fireplaces, and a forward-facing Jacuzzi overlooking the bow.

Throughout, BREAKTHROUGH integrates lifestyle features that balance grandeur with seclusion: a games niche on the bridge deck, a coffee nook in the atrium, a private dining room with sea terrace on the lower deck, and wellness spaces including a spa, gym, and massage suite.

The design intent, as articulated by the commissioning owner, was to create a “four-level townhouse by the sea”, where quiet reflection and lively entertaining coexist seamlessly.

Market Context

The sale of BREAKTHROUGH arrives at a pivotal moment for the brokerage market. Demand for yachts above 100 metres has remained highly selective, with only a handful of buyers worldwide able to commission or acquire projects of this scale.

Yet interest in sustainable flagships is rising, driven by a new generation of owners seeking to combine range and lifestyle with reduced environmental impact.

According to YachtBuyer Market Watch & Intelligence, there are 88 yachts exceeding 100 metres in operation, and only a fraction feature advanced alternative propulsion systems. Superyacht BREAKTHROUGH therefore represents not only the latest in Feadship’s large-yacht portfolio, but also a rare asset on the global stage.

With her scale, energy systems, and Feadship provenance, BREAKTHROUGH is widely regarded as one of the most significant brokerage opportunities of the decade so far.
