Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.53m beam and a 2.24m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 457 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 2000 with the keel laid under the project name 'Renegade II'. Launched in February 2004 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in February 2004.

Exterior Design

The 43.89m (144ft) Alaska of George Town has a strong expedition-style profile shaped around long-range cruising rather than outright speed. Built entirely in aluminium by Shipworks Brisbane, her dark blue hull contrasts sharply with the white superstructure, while the stepped tri-deck arrangement creates a long, layered silhouette across the water. The upper decks taper aft beneath a stacked mast structure.

The hull lines lean toward practicality and seaworthiness, with a displacement form developed by Burness Corlett and Bernie Cohen. A high bow, broad beam of 8.53m (28ft) and flowing sheer line reinforce the yacht’s ocean-going character, while long horizontal glazing sections reduce the visual bulk of the superstructure. The deep overhangs also add shade to exterior guest spaces across multiple deck levels.

Outdoor living centres around the sundeck, which spans 61m² (656ft²). This area includes a guest spa pool, full bar, barbecue station, sunpads and open lounge seating. A second private spa tub sits forward on the owner’s terrace, creating a more secluded outdoor area linked directly to the master suite. The bridge deck aft provides another social space with dining and lounge seating, while the aft main deck steps down toward the swim platform and tender handling area.

The yacht carries 182m² (1,959ft²) of exterior deck space in total, so circulation between decks feels generous for a yacht of this size. Her clean aft sections also maintain easy water access for swimming and watersports, supported by a 7m (23ft) Kardis RIB tender and multiple jet skis.

Interior Design

Bernie Cohen designed the interior with a restrained palette built around dark walnut, Thai silk wall panels, marble detailing and polished timber finishes. Rather than chasing contemporary minimalism, the spaces feel warm and substantial, with layered materials and muted tones giving the yacht a quieter atmosphere throughout the guest areas.

The main saloon spans 41.89m² (451ft²) and connects directly to the formal dining room, which measures 27.14m² (292ft²). Large windows bring natural light deep into the interior, while solid walnut columns and detailed joinery maintain continuity across the main deck. Soft furnishings and hand-tufted Tai Ping carpets soften the darker timber finishes, so the balance never becomes overly heavy.

The dining room introduces stronger decorative detail through Thai silk wall coverings and darker woods, while the galley shifts toward a more technical finish with cashew marble, stainless steel worktops and Zanussi commercial-grade appliances. The layout supports extended cruising, helped by dedicated refrigeration, wine storage, dumbwaiter access and substantial provisioning systems.

Bridge systems reflect the yacht’s long-range brief. Dual Furuno radar arrays, Transas navigation systems, Sperry Marine autopilot controls and upgraded Starlink connectivity all support extended offshore operation. Zero-speed Quantum stabilisers also improve comfort both underway and at anchor.

Accommodation

Alaska of George Town accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins, alongside accommodation for up to nine crew. The arrangement balances privacy well, particularly around the owner’s areas.

The owner’s suite sits forward on the main deck and occupies 38.28m² (411ft²). Accessed through a private lobby, the suite includes a study, walk-in wardrobe and a split-level arrangement with steps leading to the sleeping area. The bed faces aft for improved comfort underway, while the en suite bathroom uses dark marble and gold-toned fittings to create a more dramatic look than the rest of the yacht’s interior. Direct access to a private terrace spa tub also separates the suite from the guest accommodation below.

On the lower deck, the full-beam VIP cabin measures 18.31m² (197ft²) and includes a king-size bed, sofa, desk and spa bath within the en suite. Two further double guest cabins continue the same material palette with silk wall panels, zebrano veneers and crema marfil marble bathrooms. An additional twin cabin on the upper level provides flexibility for children, staff or occasional guests.

Crew accommodation occupies the forward lower deck and includes five cabins with separate crew circulation. The captain’s cabin sits on the bridge deck, while the crew mess benefits from natural light and direct views forward over the bow.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3412E) 12-cylinder 900hp engines running at 2300rpm, motor yacht Alaska of George Town is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots. With her 65,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 6,000 nautical miles at an economic speed of 11 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Alaska of George Town also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
