Key Features
- 60-knot top speed
- Blue Riband Challenger
- 3,000nm range at 40 knots
- Riva Calzoni waterjets
Design & Construction
Designed around a planing aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 7.5m beam and a 1.22m draft.
Exterior Design
Azimut Atlantic Challenger had a low, aggressive profile shaped entirely around speed. The hull runs long and fine, with a sharp entry and a pronounced chine that carries aft to support lift at high planing speeds. Multiple spray rails are cut into the forward sections, visible in profile, helping deflect water and keep the hull running clean as speed builds.
The superstructure sits compact and low over the hull, keeping windage to a minimum. A narrow wheelhouse canopy blends into the deck line, with little visual separation between hull and structure. The white hull carried bold graphics with red & blue striping in the 1980s, with the Atlantic Challenger name set prominently along the topsides and Azimut branding aft.
Accommodation
She is also capable of carrying up to 7 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Azimut Atlantic Challenger was powered by four CRM diesel engines, each rated at 1,850hp, delivering a combined output of 7,400hp. Power was transmitted through a Riva Calzoni hydro-jet propulsion system, selected to support sustained high-speed operation and stable handling at planing speeds.
The yacht was capable of reaching a top speed of 60 knots, with a comfortable cruising speed of 40 knots. Fuel capacity stood at 85,000 litres, giving a maximum range of around 3,000 nautical miles at 40 knots, sufficient for a non-stop transatlantic attempt under Blue Riband rules. The planing hull form was designed to reduce resistance at speed, allowing the yacht to maintain high average velocities while carrying an unusually heavy fuel load.
