Design & Construction

Designed around a planing GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.4m beam and a 1.5m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 244 GT (Gross Tonnes).

This was the eleventh yacht built on the Sport 120 design. Launched in July 2017 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in August 2017.

Exterior Design

Back 9 And a Half is a 36.45m (119.6ft) ISA Sport 120, built in 2017 and updated in 2024, with exterior styling by Enrico Gobbi. The profile is low, stretched, and clearly performance-led, with long glazing bands and a flowing sheer line that keeps the yacht visually light despite her volume.

The layout leans toward open living. The sundeck is divided into clear zones, with a forward lounge behind the windscreen, a central dining area for up to 12 under a shaded roll bar, and a wet bar to port with direct service via dumbwaiter. Sunpads and loose seating fill the remaining space, while a jacuzzi adds a fixed focal point.

Aft, twin staircases run from the swim platform up through the decks, a signature ISA feature that also improves circulation. The beach area sits low to the water and links directly to the garage spaces, which include a tender garage and separate jet ski storage, keeping toys out of sight when not in use.

The bow carries additional sunpads and seating, so it works as a second outdoor zone away from the main deck. A shallow draft of 1.5m (4ft 11in) allows access to areas that larger yachts in this class cannot reach, particularly in the Bahamas.

Interior Design

The interior, attributed to Cristiano Gatto Design, uses a controlled mix of oak, lacquered surfaces, and leather to keep the look clean but warm. Striped white oak panels contrast with darker frames and flooring, which gives the spaces depth without adding visual weight.

The main saloon is arranged around an L-shaped Poltrona Frau sofa, with additional loose seating to keep the layout flexible. Large windows run almost full length, so the space stays bright through the day.

Forward, the dining area uses a round table and can open out through sliding glass sections, which removes the boundary between interior and exterior when conditions allow. This makes the main deck feel wider than the numbers suggest.

Lighting is handled through indirect LED strips and recessed fittings, which define each zone without harsh contrasts. Stainless steel detailing and dark leather accents add contrast without breaking the overall palette.

The helm integrates control systems through tablet-based interfaces, which extends to lighting, climate, and entertainment across the yacht.

Accommodation

Back 9 And a Half accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins, with crew space for six.

The owner’s suite sits forward on the main deck and uses a split-level layout. The upper level holds the sleeping area, while the lower section houses the en suite and wardrobe. This arrangement increases usable space without expanding the footprint.

Below deck, two double cabins and two twin cabins handle guest accommodation. All cabins have en suite bathrooms, and the twin cabins allow flexible use for mixed groups or families.

Crew quarters are separated by a solid bulkhead and include their own galley and service spaces, which keeps operations away from guest areas.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by 3 x diesel MTU (16V 2000 M96) 16-cylinder 2,400hp engines running at 2450rpm, motor yacht Back 9 And a Half is capable of reaching a top speed of 31 knots, and comfortably cruises at 24 knots. With her 25,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 550 nautical miles at 24 knots. Her planing hull design means she is fast and efficient as she slices through the water.
