Delivered in 1986, Highlander is a 49.45m classic yacht built by Dutch shipyard Feadship. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Bannenberg & Rowell, while De Voogt is responsible for her naval architecture.

Key Features

  • Helipad doubles as a sun deck
  • Media room with surround sound
  • Top deck features sunbathing and Jacuzzi
  • Enlarged aft deck with seating and bar

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.59m beam and a 2.95m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 447 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Highlander carries forward Jon Bannenberg’s unmistakable geometry with a sharper, more contemporary edge. During the refit, the teak caprails were removed to clean up the sheer and emphasise the tall steel hull, and shallow brows were added over the pilothouse and skylounge to tighten the profile. The original green livery was retained but deepened to a near-black shade, and the former colour striping along the hull was deleted for a crisper line. Stainless steel guardrails complete the refreshed detailing. The result stays true to Bannenberg’s straight-line philosophy while reading as a modern evolution of the original.

A 12ft (3.7m) transom extension reshaped life at the water. It introduced a broad beach area with a wide garage for water toys and a Transformer hydraulic platform that drops to bathing height or extends for tender work. Teak steps connect this platform to an enlarged main deck aft arranged for sociable seating and a bar.

Up top, the helipad does double duty as a circular sun deck beside a new Jacuzzi with views over the skylounge’s glass roof. The upper deck gained an indoor-outdoor dining area immediately abaft the skylounge, and the bridge deck is rigged to handle Highlander’s two signature tenders - a 6.7m (22ft) Donzi and a 5.8m (19ft) custom Cigarette. The top deck itself was pushed forward to create built-in seating, sunpads and a bar, while the middle deck is set up for all-day sunbathing. V-Kool treatment on the signature overhead skylights tempers heat without sacrificing natural light.

Beneath the styling, Murray & Associates engineered the extension so the running attitude and handling stay faithful to the original brief. Despite the added length and a new Jacuzzi, the yacht proved marginally quicker on trials after the refit, helped by weight saved from removing the old steel pilothouse. Hull construction remains steel with an aluminium superstructure, classed to RINA.

Interior Design

Highlander’s interior is light, contemporary and beautifully detailed. The design favours open spaces and natural flow between rooms, creating a calm, social atmosphere that connects effortlessly with the exterior decks. The main saloon spans the full beam of the yacht, its walls finished in pale African anigre offset by dark, wide-plank flooring for visual contrast. Large windows fill the space with light, and wide-opening glass doors aft merge the saloon with the deck for one continuous entertaining area.

A central floating staircase links the main deck to the levels above, constructed from Amazonian leathered stone and framed by gently curved walnut panels. The skylounge is one of Highlander’s defining features, its Brazilian blue onyx floor glowing beneath glass skylights treated with V-Kool to soften the sunlight. This space combines lounge, bar and evening entertainment functions, transforming easily from a daytime retreat into an atmospheric night venue.

Forward on the main deck, the galley has been positioned for direct service to the saloon and dining areas. It is fully equipped for professional or family use, and styled with the same modern tone as the guest spaces. The pilothouse carries a compact multi-screen console for all navigation and systems monitoring, set within a clean, functional bridge environment that mirrors the yacht’s precise design language.

Many custom pieces were designed specifically for Highlander, combining luxurious materials with a relaxed, approachable feel. Subtle nods to her heritage appear in the preserved Perspex handrails and selected original marbles, maintaining continuity with her Feadship craftsmanship.

Accommodation

Highlander accommodates 12 guests in seven staterooms. The full-beam master suite sits forward on the main deck, offering panoramic views through large windows. It features a floating king-sized bed, his-and-her marble bathrooms and a private study that can be closed off for quiet work or reading.

Six additional guest suites are located on the lower deck, each with its own en suite bathroom finished in marble. The VIP cabin includes a king-sized bed, a Jacuzzi bath, separate shower, and a walk-in wardrobe. An adjoining staff cabin can be arranged for a nanny, security officer or extra guest when required. A dedicated massage room completes the guest area, adding a sense of wellbeing to longer cruises.

Crew quarters accommodate 11 across well-laid-out cabins, with a crew galley and mess positioned forward on the lower deck.
