Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11m beam and a 3.5m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,049 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 1996. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Katharine carries a traditional profile with a long, continuous sheerline and a clean white hull and superstructure. She has a classic canoe stern, with the hull tapering smoothly aft into a rounded form.

Katharine features a large and attractive sun deck with a splash pool and two significant seating areas grouped around tables. One seating area is open, and the other is shaded, providing flexible options for outdoor relaxation. The sun deck is finished with laid teak decking extending around the central funnel structure, which conceals a shower and head compartment made from polished Brazilian granite.

Forward-facing seats offer an unobstructed view ahead, while the main social area at the aft includes a three-sided square of comfortable sofas. These sofas, upholstered in a special white cotton material with a sea-blue border hand-woven in Sardinia, surround a low teak table. The circular table, adorned with a mosaic of playful dolphins, can be raised and extended to accommodate alfresco dining for up to 12 people. A barbecue and buffet area is located along the port rail, provisioned directly from the galley via a food lift. Matching teak-topped cabinets on the starboard side house the liferafts and their launching ramps.

The upper deck's alfresco area maintains a slightly more formal atmosphere, featuring white tongue-and-groove boarding for the sofa bases and waterproof lamps on corner tables. The sun awning is made of real canvas, supported by spruce combs with integrated spotlights. The McGuire bamboo chairs have a "Tiger Crackle" finish, and the large teak dining table includes a central panel of green glass that can be underlit.

Interior Design

The interior follows a traditional approach, built around cherry wood panelling stained to a mid-mahogany tone. The finish is consistent throughout, paired with detailed joinery and a mix of European and Asian influences in the furnishings.

The formal dining room sits forward on the main deck and is accessed through sliding glass doors. It features a large teak table with an underlit green glass centre, surrounded by Chinoiserie-style chairs, Chinese porcelain and silk-backed detailing. Built-in storage and display units line the bulkheads.

A central lobby links the main spaces and includes a semicircular staircase that connects the decks. From here, the main saloon is arranged as a drawing room with raised and fielded cherry panelling and an Adam-style fireplace. Seating is split into two zones, one centred on the fireplace and one arranged around a concealed television system.

A second, more relaxed family saloon sits aft. This space is denser in layout, with sofas, armchairs, a green leather ottoman and a small bar. It opens directly onto the shaded aft deck, where curved wicker seating continues the same softer tone.

Materials stay consistent throughout, with wool carpets, detailed woodwork and semi-precious stone used across bathrooms and key surfaces. The focus stays on durability and craft rather than contrast or minimalism.
