Nomad is a 54.9m motor yacht delivered by Dutch shipyard Amels in 2019. The yacht's exteriors have been penned by Tim Heywood Design, while Bonesteel Trout Hall has designed her interiors.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.4m beam and a 3.4m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 671 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the fifteenth yacht built on the Amels 180 design. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in April 2019 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2019.
Exterior Design
Nomad is built on the Amels 180, one of the most successful semi-custom superyacht platforms of the past two decades.
Tim Heywood's exterior design has all the hallmarks that made the Amels 180 such a success. A long foredeck, gently raked bow and sweeping superstructure lines give Nomad an elegant profile that disguises her 55m (180.4ft) length and 671GT. Long bands of glazing draw the eye from bow to stern, while the low, flowing profile avoids the top-heavy appearance that can affect yachts with four guest decks.
What truly sets Nomad apart is her deep blue hull. Developed with Heywood and the owners, the bespoke colour scheme contrasts with the white superstructure and anthracite detailing to emphasise the yacht's long horizontal lines. It was also a demanding technical choice, as dark blue paint requires exceptionally accurate fairing and application to achieve a flawless finish. The result gives Nomad an identity that is instantly recognisable among a sea of white yachts.
Nomad also benefits from the refinements introduced when the original Amels 177 evolved into the Amels 180. The extra length created space for a proper beach club and dramatically enlarged the sundeck, features that have become defining characteristics of the model. The beach club is arranged as an active watersports base rather than a spa, with dedicated storage for diving gear, fishing equipment and an extensive collection of inflatables, while the swim platform serves as the launch point for life on the water.
Above, the 180m² (1,938ft²) sundeck is one of the yacht's defining spaces. Instead of one large open deck, it is divided into several distinct areas for dining, relaxing, exercising and entertaining. Free-standing furniture allows the layout to change throughout the day, while the curved supports beneath the radar arch create sheltered seating without closing off the space. Forward, the unused touch-and-go helipad provides another open area for sunbathing or taking in the view.
Interior Design
Nomad's interior is unlike any previous Amels 180. Rather than turning to an established yacht studio, the owners chose Southern California designers Bonesteel Trout Hall, whose background in luxury homes shaped the yacht into a bright, relaxed family retreat instead of a traditional superyacht interior. Working closely with Amels and interior specialists Metrica, they adapted residential design ideas to meet the practical demands of life at sea.
Light satin-finished sycamore replaces the darker high-gloss woods often found aboard large yachts, while polished chrome, woven textures and neutral fabrics create a calm backdrop throughout the guest areas. Colour arrives through carefully chosen artwork, bespoke Tai Ping silk rugs and Calico wall coverings, giving each room its own character without overwhelming the interior. The result feels fresh, welcoming and unmistakably personal.
The main saloon balances comfort with understated elegance. Residential-style furniture replaces much of the built-in seating normally associated with yachts of this size, while large windows bring in plenty of natural light. Forward, the formal dining area centres on a striking Hellman-Chang walnut dining table paired with bright yellow Facet chairs, creating one of the yacht's most memorable spaces. Hydraulic balconies on either side open the room to the sea, strengthening the connection between inside and outside.
The owners also made practical changes to the original design. Full-height glazing was introduced in the upper saloon to bring more daylight into the space and improve the connection with the aft deck, while hidden luggage storage, concealed wiring and thoughtful family-friendly details reflect Bonesteel Trout Hall's residential experience as much as their eye for design.
Accommodation
Nomad accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins, with a layout designed around family cruising without compromising comfort for adult guests.
The full-beam owner's suite occupies the forward section of the main deck and includes one of the yacht's signature features: a large hydraulic balcony that folds out from the starboard side to create a private terrace over the water. Just aft sits a dedicated office furnished with a vintage Bottega Veneta desk, giving the owner a quiet space to work or relax away from the main guest areas.
Five further guest cabins occupy the lower deck. The standout feature is a clever family arrangement where two cabins can combine to create one large bunk suite sleeping up to seven children. It is an unusual solution on a yacht of this size and reflects the owners' brief to create a yacht that genuinely works for a large, active family rather than simply maximising guest numbers.
Accommodation for up to 13 crew ensures the high standard of service expected from a yacht designed for extended cruising and busy family use.
Performance & Capabilities
Nomad is powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M70 diesel engines producing 1,308hp each, giving her a top speed of 15.5 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 13 knots. At an economical 12 knots, her 115,000-litre fuel capacity provides a range of around 5,100 nautical miles, giving owners the freedom to undertake extended passages with confidence.
Like every Amels 180, Nomad is built around a full-displacement steel hull with an aluminium superstructure. The platform is designed for quiet, comfortable ocean passages rather than outright speed, while stabilisers reduce roll both underway and at anchor, making long periods on board more comfortable for family and guests.
Leisure & Entertainment
Nomad was designed around an active family lifestyle. The beach club stores an extensive collection of water toys, diving equipment and fishing gear, while the swim platform acts as a staging area for launching everything from Sea-Doos to inflatables and the family's modular SeaRaft platform. Rather than treating the beach club as another lounge, the owners created a practical base for spending long days on the water.
On board, entertainment is spread across several decks. The aft bridge deck features a custom dining table large enough to seat the whole family, while the sundeck bar, spa pool and outdoor cinema create a very different atmosphere after sunset. Inside, bright social spaces, carefully chosen artwork and residential furniture reinforce the feeling that Nomad is a family home first and a superyacht second.
That balance between proven Dutch engineering and highly personal design is what makes Nomad stand out. She retains all the strengths that have made the Amels 180 one of the most successful semi-custom superyacht platforms, while showing just how individual a Limited Editions yacht can become in the hands of the right owner.
Wellness
Nomad's 180m² (1,938ft²) sundeck is designed to adapt throughout the day. Morning exercise sessions give way to afternoons in the 3.5-tonne spa pool, before the space transforms again for evening drinks or outdoor cinema beneath the stars. The owners' active lifestyle shaped every part of the layout, making this the most heavily used deck on board.
The deck combines sunny and shaded areas with several distinct seating groups, allowing family members to spend time together without everyone gathering in one place. Free-standing furniture makes it easy to rearrange the space, while the forward lounging area and sheltered seating beneath the radar arch ensure the deck remains comfortable throughout the day.
