Nord, a multi-award-winning 141.63m (464ft) expedition yacht, was delivered by the German shipyard Lurssen in 2021. Nuvolari-Lenard, the Italian design studio, is credited with the striking exterior and interior design of Nord, showcasing a unique bow design previously unseen on a yacht. Lurssen took charge of her naval architecture.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 19.5m beam and a 5.15m draft. The yacht is built over 6 decks with an internal volume of 10,154 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in mid 2017 with the keel laid under the project name 'Opus'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in July 2020 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in February 2021.
Exterior Design
At 141.6m (464.7ft), Nord is the pivotal point in the evolution of the modern explorer yacht. Rather than borrowing heavily or converting a commercial expedition ship, Nuvolari Lenard created a yacht that has genuine long-range expedition credentials with the scale and presence of one of the world's largest private yachts. Since her delivery in 2021, her profile has become one of the most recognisable in modern yacht design.
Nord's defining feature is the dramatic black architectural sweep that rises from the hull and flows over the bridge before tapering into the upper decks. It creates a strong visual spine through the entire profile and disguises the height of a six-deck yacht carrying more than 10,000GT of internal volume. Long bands of dark glazing further reduce visual bulk, while the broad white deck overhangs appear to float above the darker structure.
Forward, Nord introduces a bow unlike anything previously seen on a superyacht. The near-vertical stem and exceptionally long foredeck create an aircraft carrier-like appearance, with a certified touch-and-go helipad stretching almost the full width of the yacht. By pushing so much deck space ahead of the superstructure, the design achieves remarkable balance despite the yacht's enormous size.
The upperworks continue the same disciplined approach. A powerful mast carries an array of satellite domes and communications equipment arranged almost like a sculptural installation, giving Nord a purposeful, technical character. Her Ice Class steel hull underlines that impression, providing the capability to venture far beyond traditional cruising grounds while remaining unmistakably elegant.
Aft, the scale becomes even more apparent. The main deck is dominated by a remarkable 25m (82ft) swimming pool, one of the largest ever installed aboard a private yacht. Below, an enormous beach club connects directly with a vast tender garage housing a 15m limousine tender alongside support craft, dive equipment, a submarine and remotely operated vehicle. A second helipad sits above the bridge deck, complete with a fully enclosed helicopter hangar that converts into a glass-sided squash court when the aircraft is away.
Interior Design
Little has been released publicly about Nord's interior, reflecting the privacy of her owner, but the scale alone places her among the largest private residences ever built afloat. Nuvolari Lenard designed the interiors around an internal volume of 10,154GT, creating six expansive decks linked by an elevator and planned to accommodate both large gatherings and complete privacy.
The arrangement centres on generous communal spaces rather than a series of enclosed rooms. Formal and informal lounges, multiple dining areas, a cinema, spa, gym, beauty salon and wellness facilities are spread throughout the yacht, allowing different groups of guests to enjoy the yacht simultaneously without competing for space. The dedicated owner's deck provides an entirely private apartment separate from guest accommodation.
As with the exterior, the focus appears to be on clean architecture with broad glazing that can draw daylight deep into the yacht, while the exceptional beam and carefully planned circulation create interiors that are expected to feel closer to those of a private estate than a conventional superyacht.
Accommodation
Nord accommodates up to 36 guests in 20 suites, an arrangement that places her among the highest-capacity private yachts afloat. A dedicated owner's deck provides complete privacy, while the remaining guest accommodation is distributed across the yacht to create a natural separation between private suites and the extensive social spaces.
A crew of 42 supports the yacht's operation, reflecting both her scale and the breadth of facilities carried on board. From polar expeditions to extended Mediterranean seasons, the accommodation has been planned to support long periods at sea without compromise.
Performance & Capabilities
Moving a yacht of Nord's scale demands engineering that matches her ambition. Four MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines, each producing 5,765hp, deliver a combined output of more than 23,000hp. Despite an internal volume exceeding 10,000GT, the yacht reaches a top speed of 20 knots and cruises comfortably at around 15 knots, allowing her to cover long distances without sacrificing comfort.
Her engineering brief extends well beyond outright performance. The steel displacement hull is designed for dependable ocean passages in all conditions, while Lloyd's Register Ice Class certification allows Nord to operate in higher latitudes where many yachts of similar size cannot venture. The combination of robust construction, powerful machinery and expedition capability reflects a yacht intended for genuine global cruising rather than seasonal coastal use.
On board, comfort receives equal attention. Zero-speed stabilisers reduce roll both underway and at anchor, keeping the yacht steady whether crossing open ocean or spending days in a remote anchorage.
Leisure & Entertainment
Although Nord ranks among the world's largest luxury yachts, she was conceived first as a yacht capable of travelling almost anywhere. Her Ice Class hull opens higher latitudes to private owners, while two helipads and a fully enclosed helicopter hangar allow rapid access to remote destinations.
The lower deck is built around exploration. A dedicated dive centre supports underwater operations, while the extensive garage carries an exceptional fleet of tenders, a submarine, an ROV and a wide selection of water toys. This level of capability allows Nord to function as a genuine expedition platform rather than simply a yacht with explorer styling.
Life on board is equally impressive. The 25m swimming pool creates a centrepiece rarely matched on any private yacht, complemented by a spa pool, expansive beach club, wellness facilities, cinema, gym and numerous outdoor lounges spread across six decks. The helicopter hangar's conversion into a squash court neatly captures Nord's design philosophy, with every major space serving more than one purpose.
Tenders
Nord carries one of the most capable support fleets ever assembled aboard a private yacht. A vast side-loading tender garage extends across the lower deck, housing a 15m (49.2ft) limousine tender alongside additional guest tenders, support craft and an extensive collection of water toys. The yacht also carries a submarine and a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), allowing guests to explore beneath the surface as well as above it.
A dedicated dive centre supports both recreational diving and expedition operations, with equipment and launch facilities designed for efficient deployment. Together with two helipads and a fully enclosed helicopter hangar, the tender inventory transforms Nord into a genuine expedition platform capable of operating independently in remote cruising grounds while offering the same level of comfort expected from one of the world's largest private yachts.
